Are these tyres safe? (pics)

I'm probably completely wrong on this, but I wouldn't say those tyres are unsafe.

I think the cracks are caused by the tyres heating cycle. If they get any worse, they'll probably just start losing air rather than blowing up in an all mighty fashion.

The rear tyres on my car are already showing a few cracks around the tread edge. They're only a few months old.

Even if they are ok they certainly don't look sticky anymore. Prob set rock hard so that’s half your grip gone right there

I had a pair for over 40k miles still with plenty of life on them :).. got though 2 sets of front tyres but the rears still had plenty left.. Buy cheap hard compound tyres..

My first set of fronts lasted nearly 40k miles  Thats with the car driven from cold to the redline on every change, lots of messing about all the time etc.

40k could easily last some people 3 years or more.

My Dads front tyres lasted 53000miles (from new) and the only reason he got them replaced was because I made him when I saw them. Rears are only half way through their life.

Yeah they are safe, I will consider replacements if they are rock solid old and don't grip.

It all depends on the car/tyre combo. The Mondeo generally eats 2 full sets a year without thinking twice - on my Sierra they refused to wear at all.

safe. Unless the side wall is cracking like that. Then I wouldn't say it was unsafe but it would be an MOT failure.
My sidewalls have small cracks in them and passed the MOT just a week ago. I'm still not sure and might replace them very soon.

Isn't the pressure on mondeo tyres really low, about 32psi, they always look saggy.

I got about 8k miles out of a set of cheapo nangkangs on my pug 307  and that was without turning of traction control / ESP

Imo, unsafe.

A tyre like that would be replaced on either my car or truck.

Never take chances with the items keeping you on the road. ;)
