Are they allowed to do this?

I can't see what they've done wrong tbh, as they've offered a refund etc..., so wheres the problem, what am i missing

Because they've offered the op a product at a discouted rate and taken the money for it but have now decided to renege on the deal

it's not rocket science to understand why somebody would be a bit peeved

I see Camelpaw has been suspended due to my comment. It wasnt my intention to wind you up or troll so that you would end up getting suspended, and for that I am sorry. :o

No probs, was my fault anyway.

Well anyway, I thought I'd better update this thread with my results.

I emailed the company saying:

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is not acceptable. The price on the website was £ xx.xx ex VAT and mentioned nothing of a special offer and when or if that price would revert back to the 'correct price'. It is not my fault you have not updated the website at the correct time with the 'correct price', and you have an obligation to provide me with the product at the price I ordered it for, in the same way I have an obligation to pay for the product. This is my first time using <Companyname> and wish it to be a pleasant experience and trouble-free. Please process my order at the original price, even if it is just a goodwill gesture.

I look forward to your reply and hope we can settle this in an amicable manner.

Regards,

<Name>

They then emailed back:

Hi <Name>

Thank you for your email

The Supplier's are providing us at a higher price now
And so we updated you about the same

As you must be aware price keeps on fluctuating every 2 hours for memories

Unfortunately we can't provide you at the original price
Its even below our cost

Please let us know if you want to go ahead with the new price or want to cancel the order

Thank you

Then:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I understand memory prices fluctuate, but that is completely irrelevant in this case; memory does not go up £40 overnight, it was purely an error on your part. I have also read your terms and conditions and understand what you have said is perfectly within your rights. However, for the sake of good customer service, I would kindly ask you to meet me half way, and I'll pay half the different on top of what I have already paid you. This would work out at £xx.xx/2 = £xx.xx and the total I would pay is £xxx.xx ex VAT.

I hope you can understand my situation and can facilitate my needs on this one occasion.

Regards,

<Name>

And finally:

Hi

Thank you for your email

We shall provide you @ the price you agreed to

We have sent you an invoice via Google check out for the extra payment

Once we have that we shall order from our Supplier
ETA would be 3-5 days time

Thank you

So there you go. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I feel the situation was sorted pretty well :)

However, still very unimpressed with the unprofessionalism of their emails... The lack of capital letters and grammar is pretty awful!

Anyway... Comments/thoughts?

I've had far less legible emails from companies, that strikes me as slightly above average.

Quite a good end result.

Example of one I've received.

Thank you for your email, I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this. and im sorry for not been able to accept both items back at the same time for testing together sir. this is something we are looking into benn able to do in the very near futher.

Regards,

Ashley Hulme

Wow, that's pretty awful... I know standard emails from companies can be annoying, but at least they have a consistent and professional format...
