British businesses are losing more than £50m a year because of employees skipping off work on Friday afternoons.
A growing number of staff are treating the last day of the working week as an unofficial holiday, a company claims.

It found the top excuses for starting the weekend early are a long lunch, doctor's appointment and an out-of-office meeting near to home.

The company which produced the study says it has developed a computer programme to track employee absence.

And if you are, do you care?
If you are an employer, what do you think?

I don't go home early but the last couple of hours here involved doing sweet FA, suppose it's the same :p We do finish an hour early on a Friday though at 4pm.

Actually I probably work hardest on a Friday than any other day. I have to try and wrap up things before the weekend in most cases.

Going to the Pub for lunch today - that usually ensures a high level of productivity in the afternoon ;)

I can't post a full reply to this, I've got to go for a meeting soon until very late this afternoon. But siffice to say, I work hard all day on Friday's ;)

I'm a slacker every day of the week but yes I slack particularly hard on Fridays. Haven't been in to work at all today.

Im guilty of the afternoon meeting trick :D

We are all the same in our dept, as essentially we are all glorified salesmen :p so in the end we balance it all out, ive lost count on the number of times i have flown out on a sunday, or gotten home at 8-9pm.

We have the flexibility, which is nice tbh.

I try and wind down the requirements of my team on Friday so as to let them go for extended lunches or perhaps go home a couple of hours early.
Friday's are historically quiet days because of the fact that people tend not do much and thus put less pressure on the services we provide.

Its not called free-day friday for nothing.

I never do much work on a friday, i dont feel bad because my director takes a lot of fridays off (he's off today) also about 12 people including the chairman and owner of the company are off to play cricket at 12 today.

nice quadruple post btw

pfft i'm just gearing up for a busy weekend :) the joys of being a taxi driver I make a good 75% of my income fri/sat/sunday
