Are You A Gamer? - Use Mumble?

There has been a a few incidents of randoms joining and thinking it's a giggle to yell obscenities or rubbish. I know it is possible to "local mute" them but there does need to be more admin control on it. Or allow sub channel creation which can then be password protected.

It would be great if mumble was configured to use the forum for authentication.

I'm not sure if the vbulletin script was ever completed but I could probably knock something together if it would be useful/be used.

What kind of script? A bridge between users of ocuk and mumble so only those on forums can be on our mumble?

But i wouldnt say no to a the ocuk channel being password protected and make it invite only i.e pm one of the admins that helps run mumble for it so only ocukers can get access to it. Tho bit extreme.

Or more admins on that are on offpeak and peak times. Not just when ppl are finished work in the evening which most ocuk admins probably will be.

A script that would mean you would log into the mumble server with your ocuk forum username/password, yes. This means that any actions anyone takes would be clearly linked to a forum account and suspensions/bans could easily be enforced by the whole ocuk mod/admin team.

I'm not sure it's practical to have someone monitoring the server 24/7 and you're almost certainly going to get people 'having a laugh' and being an idiot on there - probably when a mod/admin isn't around.

I think only ocuk dons would be the ones to do such a script i dont think they would trust anyone outside of the don/staff crowd for that kinda of script.

Good idea tho.

Writing the script could be done by anyone. I wasn't suggesting that I would then host the script and have database access :p

Presumably however 5UB is hosting it now would be a trusted place to have such a link. Alternatively, OcUK could literally host everything in house. I believe their internet connection is pretty rocking.

Haha forgot that it could be checked before use. Silly me. :p

I mean if it can be written checked for security and put on the server then cool. Would be in favour of that.

What might be an idea would be to check post count before letting you on, say 50 or 100 posts min then you can use it? Would help prevent ppl from competitors or the like, registering and then pop on mumble etc.

I imagine that'd be pretty simple to do. If 5UB gets in touch with me (i.e. if he's interested + it's likely to be approved) then I'm happy to do some work on it. I don't think it'd take long at all to write.
