Are you a gym goer? what type of gym you choose?

Health and safety...

Oh and the fact it was bothering some people in the cafe downstairs...

Priorities... DL was more worried about it's cafe culture than allowing people to hit the gym.

That is just tragic. I've been to a David Loyd gym before and they are very nice but a bit pretentious. I'd argue a squat is just as dangerous, especially if no spotter bars are used. Wonder if they will ban that!?

I workout at home in my garage, which has a Oly bar, 180kg of plates and a CF415 squat rack. Cost me around £350 which pays itself back in under a year of gym membership. Plus I don't ever have to wait for a rack!!

Work gym, dodgy squat rack, dodgy bench but 200kg of weights and a decent bar. Also I get to use it on my own, so I can be naked. Naked gym > all.

I would contend squatting with safeties encourages ego lifting... I haven't had a problem squatting with weights at home, without safeties, in nearly five years...

I train in 4 places;

A cheap gym - used to be fitspace and is now a Better gym - £12 a month for a gym is about the most I'm willing to pay (this is for weights 1-2 times a week).

The gym within my apartment complex - it has a modern concept2 and as a rower I like to smash out the ergs about 4 times a week.

The river Trent 5 mins walk down the road. Either for circuit training on the embankment or occasionally rowing on the actual river.

The rowing lake at Holme Pierrepont as per the last point.

Obviously the latter 2 are dominant in summer!

I like proper spit and sawdust gyms. found a much more "pro" gym. No gimmicks, just good equipment, good people,. and I was free to do what the **** I wanted.

I need good equipment that can take a bit of punishment, lots and lots of plates, lots and lots of racks, prowlers, specialist equipment and where they don't play **** pop music. Basically I need a gym without poncy *****, or bicep curlers. With space to do what I want, when I want, and people who are willing to share, egg you on, encourage you, challenge you and be a bro rather than some random anonymous nobody.

Now I have my own gym at home.

I know just the sort of place you mean :D

I don't get on with cheaper gym's near me as they always seems to be overcrowded and full of angry young people. I go to a posh golf club which is on my commute which includes classes, pool, sauna etc. I do pay c. £60 a month though.

I've been to chain gyms, cheap gyms and a big local independent all at various prices. My favourite was the big indy (link for anyone local in kent: https://www.rochester-healthclub.com/ ) but since we had our first kid, this is now the ideal gym:

This is an old picture but i also have a punch bag another bar and lots more plates. I also extended the mats further out. The only issue i have is that its hot as balls in there in the summer and cold as balls in there in the winter. :D (Official units of temp measurement)

I need to start going back to the gym as I haveb't been since moving house but I've been to two types of gyms so far.

The first gym I joined was on an industrial estate hidden away. £30 a month, old equipment, padding on equipment was often ripped and full of the local regulars. Had only a few members of staff which would over time get to know you.

The second gym I join was a new mega gym costing £10 a month. All fancy new equipment and the amount of machines and other facilties was fantastic. Even the showers were nice. However I have grown to hate this kind of gym. It's full of posers who do a set, flex and take selfies in the mirrors between sets. The staff generally don't seem to care about who goes there and you're just another blank face to them.

Never again will I join a gym like that. I don't care if it's cheaper or has more things to do, the overall experience wasn't as nice. In my first gym the staff would speak to you every so often and see how you're getting on and I really missed that. Even other members of the gym, after a while become really friendly which was amazing for me as a novice as I was always scared to step foot in one.

Going to join a new gym which is at the end of my road. Looks to be much closer of an experience to the first gym I went to

Ab Salute gym been here for about a year now. Best gym in my city for my needs. 3 oly platforms+rack, 1 squat rack and 1 power rack. no excuse for me to skip squats as theres always a rack free. Hammer strength equipment is my fave, tho I do miss the technogym total abdominal machine
