Are you Advanced?

People getting an iPad instead of a computer is. People are starting to realise that actually it's a good accessory to a computer but a poor replacement for one.

IPad yeah, tablet no.
I do everything on a surface rt now. The only thing I use a pc for, is pc gaming. Spreadsheets etc get dome on surface.
The fact is most people. Only need a device to consume media, and do the odd, CV, Letter, household bills etc. Most people simply do not need a pc at all, and would rather not take up a room with a desk, monitor etc. As well as tablets being "more" sociable and can use them anywhere, long battery life unlike laptops and far lighter.

Just waiting for the day surface pro, gets better battery. Or proper games come to arm, although they need more power. Then the laptop would go. Tablet games suck massively, they're not games they're just pap. Get Kerbal space program, galactic civilization 3, Elite, etc on tablets. Ok most need far more power.

Being "advanced" isn't really about what technology you own, it's more about the integration and automation between devices which is where the real gains are.

pretty much the same as you op although my microwave is pretty cool being able to auto cook pretty much anything with one press of a button

Well the iPad has opened up computing to a vast majority where a computer was just to much hassle. Those people just want to email, browse and look at photos. No need for a computer.

No using a tablet is a fad! If you want to check your emails you must dust off your old heavy laptop and wait 2 minutes for it to boot up. OTHERWISE IT IS A FAD!

Really should dig out the original iPad thread and laugh at all the people who said it would fail and/or would be a fad.

For the people that just browse the internet and send emails, I whole heartily disagree. You have a very short sighted opinion on the consumer market when it comes to technological requirements.

Indeed. For most people a tablet does all the internetting they need.

I love tech and love a good gadget. I do not have a CD player any more (but have 100's of CD's and records). Everything is streamed via computer now and even my computer doesn't have a CD player.

As I sit here I have two smart phones, a tablet, two 24" monitors plumbed into my laptops (x2) and desktop via a KVM.

None are particularly advanced, except the integration of the smartphones and tablet.

Like the majority of people, I have a GPS satnav. Personally, i'd say that is an "advanced" piece of technology. I'm struggling to think of anything more technologically advanced which is available to the public at a sensible price?

There is always that time though when people go on holiday and take a load of photos on a digital camera and want them on their tablet and suddenly it's not all plain sailing.

Or alternatively, when they want to print to a printer that they already have (i.e. not wireless).

I agree that 99% of the time, the consumer will be happy with their tablet, but there will be that 1% of the time that they wish they didn't throw away their old pc as they need to do something that the tablet can't.

My VU+ Solo2 satellite receiver can also be streamed to my phone so if I need to go to the toilet I don't miss a goal - that's pretty advanced.
