Are you allowed to undo your seatbelt when reversing?

hmm. I'm going to say yes.

AFAIK, the only main time you can take your seatbelt off driving forward is if your quite far into a pregnancy, but then you might be a bit stupid driving anyway.

Am i the only one who thinks that is silly, what happens if another car hits you when you are reversing or preparing to reverse? surely the seatbelt is something you'd want to be wearing in such a situation.

Nor is there anything about seatbelts on the reversing page :)

edit:

But there is something on the governments Think! Road safety website :)

Exemptions from seat belt wearing
There is a specific exemption from seat belt wearing on medical grounds. There are some other exemptions, for example when reversing.

Why would you need to? I've never found a seatbelt to be uncomfortable whether reversing or otherwise. In fact it feels very weird if I don't wear one.

My dad undoes his sometimes when reversing, as he leans round and used the passenger seat to brace himself. I do the same however, and manage fine without undoing the belt.
