Are you obsessed with computer maintenance?

I dont know about you but I am forever updating/running/rebooting/ my PC for constant scans and updates, its as if my PC has to be bang up to date with the latest defintions and such.

Also programs, I must have about 3 virus checkers and loads of spyware removal tools, I tend to 'look after' my PC more than i do anything else on it.

Am I........ alone?

:)

Not quite as bad as you, but I like to run spyware scans and virus scans as often as possible, have about 5 different spyware scanners than I run all together every so often.

Reboot every few days & do a defrag every so often & also a disk cleanup every so often. Sometimes have an hour or two when I clean up my hard drive aswell :)

You are not alone mate, I do that stuff for a job and believe me the last thing you need is having to do a load of windows updates at home too!!! Never mind virus scanning and adware removal! :) :D

Occasional defrag. Don't bother with virus scanning. I never download Windows Updates because its too much trouble. The current Windows installation is over 2 weeks old and its still going strong.

A whole 2 weeks. :p

not me thats for sure, I like to use my pc not fix it, I get annoyed when it goes wrong. avast takes care of itself, and I fire up diskeeper when i notice disk access slowing down, thats it though.

i defrag with PerfectDisk twice a week, run CCleaner every night before i turn it off along with registry cleaner on TuneUp

Everything has to be tidy to, hate things on my desktop lol

I always have to have minimal services running

I'm like you lol. Most people I know ask me why I have only the 'classic' icons on the desktop + my 'docs' folder and have the plain blue background.

I had an annoying 2 seconds delay when starting windows (loading your settings...) I did a TuneUp registry defrag and it fixed it! I was so chuffed.

I also have minimal services running and it bugs the hell out of me when some thing isn't as it shouldbe or when something I install decides to add itself to msconfig/services.msc, maybe I'm just fussy! :)

YES, my main PC (in sig) is purely for games and I dont run antivirus on it. I hate having too many processes running in the background. Infact I only have 17 running and that includes a firewall. Memory usage on a fresh boot is about 95Mb or less. I have everything in XP in classic mode, and im always checking my video card settings cause I change them depending on demo/game etc :)

Yes, I'm a bugger for it. My PC literally lasts no more than a month before it's all reloaded. I'm about to do it again - split it into dual-boot. XP32 for work and Internet and then XP64 for games.

I guess I enjoy tweaking and mucking about with my system but I'm not really bothered about virii or spyware. I've had a PC since 1998 and although I used to scan ocassionally with adaware etc I never once picked anything up. So I stopped worrying too much about malware. I still haven't encountered any issues....

I've got a firewall and NOD installed and scan certain downloads but thats it. If you get too worried and install loads of memory resident guff overall system performance will suffer in a big way.

Top tip to avoid spyware and virii: Don't use microsoft applications! stick with the likes of firefox or opera, and avoid opening daft email attachments. You can then turn off all your realtime, memory resident antivirus, antispyware scanners. Manually scan any potentially sinister downloads. You will notice a performance boost.

:D
