Are you overweight?

79kg - 6'1".

I'm classed as underweight but I eat more than anyone I know! I cycle a fair bit...

Want to lose weight? Easy.... get off your bum and do exercise! If you make excuses to avoid it then you aren't really bothered about your weight.

Go to any supermarket and have a good look at the food aisles. Unadulterated foods (ie. products that have no more than 3 ingredients on the packaging) make up 20% of the supermarket: veg, meat, fish, fruit, nuts. The remaining 80% of those products are junk and should only be consumed on special occasions. Yes, I include bread and pasta in the junk food category.

There are 2 aisles dedicated to 150 different types of biscuits but when I ask for liver or fresh mackerel they give me dumbface.
And cost 3x as much

I am now so fat I can barely walk, horrific back and hip pain, I think of ending it all tbh.

Troll or srs?

If srs, no dude. Honestly, just try to find some help / motivation. Any way possible.

Personal trainer, ask friends to help out anything. Start small and work up. Savour the little victories and keep going for bigger ones.

It isn't really about exercise it is more about your BMR (basal metabolic rate) basically your metabolic rate that your body requires to function.

I think the reason a lot more people are overweight than they used to be is genetic - more people have genetic thyroid issues now.
Look at Italy for example to explain this, hardly ever see any fat italians, so maybe their gene pool is thyroid-problem free.

over weight by 1 stone..lost 2 stone so far, currently 13.6 stone, 5"11.

I've also been under weight before too.. I'f bad food is put in front of me at a party i have no self control.. and today i eat at TGI Fridays, 2500 calories in one sitting.. Not good..

It's about burning more calories than you consume....it's no more complicated than that. Your post reads like a fatty making excuses.

I thought that was proven to be a crock of ****, and that metabolism fluctuates by only a few hundred depending if you have a "fast" or "slow" one.

Its about eating the right food and exercise helps obviously..

for about two weeks i was riding about 20 mile and eating 1500 calories daily and i lost no weight..

The week after i eat more protean foods and drank more water, around 1700 daily and lost 3 pounds in a week.. lately been losing nothing much, too busy with work to eat right, take aways like greggs and sandwiches :/

This is the problem with all the diet stuff is that there are so many studies out there that prove a link between something and weight, however they never say how vital that link is.

Also in reply to your quoted post..., no fat italians? You never seen the sopranos? American italians are what 2nd or 3rd generation straight from Italy, there's no way they could have developed thyroid problems in that time. So I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest it's diet and lifestyle alone.

For me, it's fairly simple. If I eat plenty of refined carbs and sugar I put on weight. If I don't, I lose it. Calorie counting also lets me lose weight but I hate it.

I have not a clue what I would need to do to stay the same weight. I've always gone up and down. That seems to be my default.

You also have to think over the past generation or so many peoples jobs have gone from manual labour or at least some form of moving around to sitting in a chair for 8-12 hours a day. You really don't need that many calories if you're sitting doing nothing day in day out but people don't understand this.

Have you only ever seen 20 year old italians?! It's a common joke to say as soon as Italians hit 30 they balloon.

While Obesity and overweightness(?!) is not as common as in the UK they still struggle a lot from it, especially the older generation.

Very little of overall obesity is thyroid related. Prevalence of hypothyroidism is around 2-3% in uk, and the vast majority of them are on treatment that would essentially make it a non issue on a population level. It really is about diet and not exercising as much, both of which are massive issues in our society. The amount of totally wrong health beliefs are staggering when it comes to weight loss.

My story is as follows:
- ~3-4 years ago was 114kg. My weight yoyos.
- Started cardio at the gym twice per week in Nov 2013. I was 106kg ~4 weeks in so I estimate I was 108kg to begin with.
- Feb 2014 started weights, only did a spot of cardio as warm up and cool down.
- May 2014 moved to a better, cheaper gym that is much closer to home. Upped my gym visits to 4 times per week. Cardio only for warm up and cool down.
- Now I have been holiday from work for just over 2 weeks and have been to the gym 16 times in a row (aiming for 20!), doing ~30 mins cardio then weights. I am 99kg +/- 1kg depending how much I have eaten and/or how big the pre-gym poo was.

I am 6'3".
At 99kg this is 27.2. I am happy with this as I have put on muscle yet lost fat. I was originally a 38" waist and 36" trousers were very uncomfortable. Now 36" waist is a touch loose and 38" I cannot wear!
My BMI was 29.7, so a sniff under obese!
I have a large frame and as I do lots of weight training now I don't particularly care about my BMI. I look better. I am healthier. Best of all, I feel much more confident!

EDIT: To get my BMI to 25.0 I need to by 91kg. I really can not see that happening, but then BMI is as generalised and a one-fits-all basic estimation.

This time last year I was 120kg, currently been hovering around 95-97.5kg for the past 4-5 months. Would like to get down to 85-87.5kg and see how I am, I've never looked as big as you'd expect for the weight so I doubt I'd want to go much lower than that.

I think everyone has their ideal weight that they are happy with.
I am simply enjoying less moob wobble, a smaller second chin, less belly and an overall more attractive appearance!
