Hi,

I thought I'd post quite on open question.

Those of you that work in the private sector imparticular:

Does your job actually advance the human race, if your job wasn't in existance would there be real damage to our society?

When you die, will you be remembered?

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?

I currently unsatisfied with my life.

I need to get my finger out, and get a job for a start - finding that "rung on the ladder" as some say. :)

At least I can say I have a partner (of 5 years), who I am more than content with.

I think see it a lot on these forums, people complaining about their current role, but then take an equally dull job with slightly higher pay somewhere else,

By my family

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?

My motivation comes from my hunger to suceed and to be the best at what I do.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?

It doensn't matter but I still want it to lead the type of life I do.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?

Not at all, I'm young and I have achieved a lot and I want more!

When you die, will you be remembered? Not for long.

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money? Sex drive.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter? Money isn't everything but it helps and does matter somewhat.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement? Not really im young.

Yes, see profile for specifics. I'm still finishing my course at Uni, but the net result will either be cancer/diabetic/neurobiological research and/or further drug discovery.

When you die, will you be remembered?

Doubt it. Unless of course my colleagues and I discover some groundbreaking cure

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?

Not specifically. I actually enjoy my chosen career.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?

Not too sure, hopefully will increase with experience.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?

Nein.

- Not at the moment, but I hope to change this in future.

When you die, will you be remembered?

- I doubt it, who knows in future.

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?

- Not money, the enjoyment of what I do. Enjoyment > Money always.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?

- Money only matters so long as you can afford to live ok (support your family , eat etc) In the grand scheme of things there is a lot of things more important.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?

- Not really, I feel I achieve what I deserve depending on how much effort is put in.

- I work in an educational establishment... we train people and often see them improve.

When you die, will you be remembered?
- Of course... by my friends, family and the people who know me. Hopefully fond memories. Very few people will be able to answer yes in a more public sense.

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?
- Money is my sole motivation for working, however I do enjoy my job and feel that through my experiences in work I have improved as a person and learnt new skills.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?
- Money is the single most important thing in the world. It allows you the freedom to live your life the way you want to. There are things I want to do in life that I cannot afford, and therefore not having enough money holds me back each and every day.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?
- No. I don't require a sense of achievement, I don't need to 'achieve' anything to make me happy.

In my job I have the chance to have a positive impact on at least one person a day. That's good enough for me. On most work days, I can be fairly certain I've improved someone's life - even if only a small bit.

When I drink on a Friday night (same pub every Friday) I always put a couple quid in the collection box when the woman comes around (for children with no immune system, I think it is) and my mates never get a chance to say no either. It may only be a drink each week, but that's £100 a year - times five. So I like to think I make a difference there.

As for whether I'll be remembered - at this rate, not by many, but I will be by those I care about - and I can't ask for more.

So, ask me if I'm happy and I'll say yes, but there's always room for improvement - in all of us. Don't judge yourself or others too harshly on standards which may or may not be applicable. If you can say to yourself that you're a good person when you go to bed, and sleep soundly, does it really matter whether you match the expectations of others?

And if you deal with twenty people a day, just remember that what may be 5% of your workload may be taking up 100% of their private life - never underestimate what the smallest piece of assistance can mean to someone.

End rambling...

My job doesnt satisfy me, at all. To the point where I'm considering throwing I.T in the bin, where it belongs, and getting back into carpentry.

money itself doesnt motivate me. what money brings or allows me and my family to do, does motivate me.
money makes the world go around and without it my family wouldnt be as happy as they can be.

doing the best for my family is why i get up and goto work, however thats to earn money.

hmm

I don't know about advancing the human race but if we weren't there, the skies would come to a halt.

When you die, will you be remembered?
For my work, no, unless I happen to do something really great or somethign really stupid. By family, friends etc. yes.

When you wake up in the morning, what motivates you to work? Money?
The money is excellent, the job satisfaction is excellent and the banter is hard to beat. I love going to work.

Is money enough? in the bigger scale of things does money matter?
The money is never enough! :p I'd consider myself to be fairly well paid with a payscale that increases by quite a bit each year. Money isn't everything but it certainly makes things outside work much nicer.

In general do you lack a sense of achievement?
Nope, I think I've done bloody well for a 21 year old, especially when I look at all of my mates.

Not for that long, just like everyone else. Even the most well known people in the world are history within a few generations. I don’t think this is a bad thing at all; it just provides further impetus to enjoy the short time we have here and help other people to do the same. That’s the only real way we live on; the effect we have on those around us and the subsequent effect they have on others will outlive all of us.

Am I satisfied? Very much so.

Im not satisfied with my work. I have a job that pays me **** loads but big deal, its a good job because of the money but I am totally unhappy and therefore looking for other employment in different areas, but this also means that I may have to take a pay cut to gain job satisfaction. This makes me feel unsatisified.
