Are You Using Surround Speakers for PC Gaming?

I sometimes use 4.1 surround using dolby digital live out via optical on my xonar essence st. This goes to a marantz AV7701 processor and via separate power amplifiers to tannoy SRM-10B front speakers, a pair of in ceiling effects speakers and a home made sub. I'd have a centre channel too if I could get one to match the fronts. Generally I stick to stereo alternating between the tannoys and a pair of JBL control 1's.

Could you not get a single tannoy SRM-10B? Or maybe the shape of the speakers is too cumbersome for area around TV/display?

They are 10" studio monitors from the early 80's which if nothing else, makes them pretty difficult to find and their size is indeed a bit of a sticking point. They are also remarkably expensive too. Ironically, when I pulled the temporary centre out that I had been running, the difference was if anything, a slight improvement.

I use a pair of Dali Kubik speakers during the day connected via toslink to the pc. Impressive stereo sound (still burning them in) and may opt for the Dali sub making it 2.1.

At night I switch to Beyerdynamic MMX300's run through Sennheiser GSX1000.
