Areca 1230 SATA Raid card

Anyone got one of these or its siblings?
Whats the general concensus on them. Are they better than other RAID cards? Do the fault tolerance features actually work?

Nox has got an Areca ARC-1220 on a P5W-DH, might wanna try speaking to him.

not worth it, just to put 2 drives in raid 0.
the Areca raid cards will pull away on raid 5 or 6.

what are you wanting one for? as that Areca 1230
is the 12 port version are you going to fill it with 12 drives?

I plan on running FOUR of the 16mb cache 36gb raptors in raid 6 with a 40gb Samsung drive as a hot-spare incase of failure. I have another 4 SATA drives I plan on putting in the system. Might try raid 0 to see what benchmark figures I can get first though.

Went for the 1230 as I could get it from the States approx £200 less than the UK and only a wee bit more than the 1220.
