Ares I-X test launch

Here's to a successful launch...

I can remember watching, with great excitement, the take off of the first Space Shuttle in 1980. We'd just returned from living in Canada, and it was a hugely significant event for that time.

Has the World lost interest in space and space exploration? I don't sense anything like the same atmosphere surrounding this launch :(

I suppose there is some aspect of taking it for granted, but should be noted that shuttle was return to space after a depressed period in the US space program and in the US mood in the country in general. And hey it was like Buck Rogers (the TV show btw had a very shuttle looking ship in it before shuttle was ever off the ground).

Also shuttle was a manned mission on it's first launch.

I remember it too. It was very exciting.
