Argh 360's have blown my last nerve! Warning rant inside.

Phone up MS as my internet died, so couldn't do the online jobby. Spoke to a real helpful chap who was enquiring about an exchange (rather than a repair), who after leaving me on hold for 15 minutes hung up on me by what I presume to be an accident.

This happened often in my old job and often the case was that when they have put you on hold to try and do something for you, none of the senior staff or those who are required are either around or don't want to help.

Obviously this puts the guy/gal who's actually on the phones having to deal with the customers and they can't tell you what the problem is so they hang up and hope when you call back you get through to someone else.

Difference with me though is that I told the customers exactly what was happening. Good thing none of those calls had been picked for monitoring.

Out of curiosity, how many hours a week do you guys with failing consoles play? I've had my elite ~15months and never had a problem. Probbably only play 2-5 hours per week though.

3rd now,
My original Premium lasted 3 yrs, rescent ones a few months :/
Waiting on them to send me a new one

I honestly dont know how i could make it any more ventilated

wheres that desk from ?

its smart

on topic, you must have had horrendous bad luck of use it a HELL of a lot

friend of mine has has quite a few, but he leaves it on pause all day while hes in uni/work so i guess that doesnt help

and yes, ps3's are just as bad, and the whole saved thing is a pain in the arse when it does compared to the 360, trust me

I don't think I use it that much. At the moment especially since I'm working lots! I tend to watch movies and such on it as well. Erm ballpark figure of around 10-15 hours a week~

I have both my Xbox360 and PS3 up vertically and have never had any problems. Always had my PS2 vertical, no problems, had an Xbox which didn't go vertical and lo and behold, that had problems.

Coincidence?

Guess Im lucky then, Im on my second box as I managed to get an upgrade to the elite and its larger drive HDD. The elites been in a little cupboard that gets pretty hot for the last 6 months for space reasons and hasnt even crashed on me!

I must be very lucky as had mine almost 3 years now and its still perfect. Been playing games on it for up to 10-12 hours straight no problems at all. Always kept it in a well ventilated area with plenty of space around and read an engineer who works @ MS hint that its best to always have it horizontal as cooling works better this way apparently because the case airflow works better plus less stress on the solder points as minimal pressure. Not sure if thats BS or not though but it makes sense to me as when you put it vertical obviously the heatsinks must exert some pressure on the motherboard which may cause the RROD.

I was thinking this myself which is why I preferred to keep the 360 in the horizontal position but I've gone through 4 now, my latest is an Elite and I've decided to use it in the vertical position, no problems yet, tbh I really don't think it makes a difference which position you use it in, best thing you can do if you want a 'fairly' reliable system is to x-clamp (mod) it.

Fair enough but how do you explain why some like mine last for years like they should yet others go through several machines in the same time? Must be more than random luck surely!

Exactly the same here.

play time should not be an issue, my good old little PS failed last year after about 10 years of almost daily use, first with my grandad (yes grandad), who passed it on to me about 8 years ago, then i passed it on to my sister (who treated it poorly) for the last 4-5 years and also by my 4 year old brother (who treated it even worse than my sister :o).

that is how long consoles should last, they shouldn't have to be treated like a ming vase or a faberge egg

I honestly think it is pot luck, maybe the blob soldering is better on some systems, or the chip just runs hotter/cooler in some systems, like with PC's you get some gpu/cpu's that run at different temps even though they are the same model.

I know for a fact that all of hilly's 360's have been well ventilated & taken care of.

Definitely pot luck I would say, but the 360 is just one big design fault anyway, cheap & nasty build. They'll need to rethink that next time they bring a console out.

About pc's & different temps I have a E6300 that runs at like 60c - 70c & I see people with far less than that on the same processor :)

I dont know why people still seem to think it's because of miss-use when they fail. We all know there is a massive lack of quality in build and design with the xbox 360.

Yep I use mine a lot 20-30hrs per week. So what the one on the left in my picture has been returned I reckon 9 times in 3 years. The right hand one went back for the first time this January and that was because of a drive problem.

Both where original board 360's.

Is it any wonder I kept getting failures when my returned consoles are still zephers. The replacement console they send me a couple of weeks ago was a zepher.

I had a lot of failures in my first year of owning the 360. Then I had none in the second year. Now in the 3rd I'm getting failures again.

Personally I think it's down to getting a newer board sometime in the 2nd year which stayed servicable but got replaced due to a bad drive. Since then I'm sure I'm getting sent the old revision.

Miss-use? No chance everything in my house is looked after because If I have paid for something I want it to last. The 360 is the worst electrical item I've both bought and even have heard of for failures in my lifetime.

They should have recalled the original chipsets.

The quality games have saved them ruin in the console market. The lead to market saved them as well. If both had been released in the same quarter the 360 would already be dead.
