I'm just finishing the setup of my new Windows 8 pro machine, but running into one problem.

How the hell do you migrate Windows Live mail email from one machine (windows 7 pro) to the other...

I've tried using "backup" in windows live mail to export the messages and accounts.
When imported into Windows Live on the 8 machine the emails don't show where they should (and I'm fairly sure a bunch are missing in the transfer).

I've tried the easy transfer tool for windows - that didn't seem to do it (it seemed to copy over all my favourites etc, and settings for programmes but not the windows live mail settings or emails).

I'm probably doing something really stupid and missing something blindingly obvious (I've been running around all day and barely got any sleep last night), but any hints would be handy :)

Alternatively, if there is an easy way to import the emails into something like thunderbird I'd be quite happy to - I remember when dealing with outlook express emails was really simple, then MS bought in Live mail...

Cheers.

Easy transfer should have done it as that copies your app data.

Try this,
On new pc goto c:\Users\"your user name"\appdata\local\Microsoft in there take a copy or rename the windows live mail folder then copy across the same folder to this location from your old pc then fire up live mail and see what happens.

Cheers, the copy the whole folder over did the trick by the looks of it :)
As I thought, it was me being rather stupid:p

I think last night I was just trying to copy over the additional folders or something (never a good idea to do anything too technical when you've been up for 20+ hours:)).
