Everytime i use the phone i turn into a complete idiot!

i lose track of what to say, or what has been said. I seriously have issues with a phone, i can only engage properly if the person is right there in front of me.

RANT.

just called he university up and i bet i sounded like a right fish. balls to it, i got the jist of the conversation.

that happens to me if im looking at a monitor/tv when im on the phone...

you just have to face the fact that you suck at life, and should do the honourable thing and kill yourself as quickly and quietly as possible :p

You're stripped of a large part of your communication (body language), its no wonder you might have difficulty expressing yourself.

You can get over it, most likely you'll do so automatically with time and experience.

it seems i can phone people if im around people, maybe im trying to prove that im not an idiot and act normal.

if im on my own, im a shambles.

maybe i should take my own life :p

dont mind the house phone, but when out and about using he mobile get very distacted, plus I dont think walking about with a small box planted to your ear is a very cool look.

but then Im uncool.. :p

I know what you mean. I just had to leave an answer phone message twice because I forgot to give my phone number the first time. :o

Copy and paste this for future reference "Hi its Mic, can I speak to little Dave please"

Voila :)

I normally try to plan out on paper the points I want to get across and some answers, I'm useless too. :( suppose it is just a confidence issue which will get better the more calls I do.

Work in a callcentre!

Sorted out all my issues with phones! :D

If it's an official / important call I (as already suggested) make notes - although this is probably something else I do out of habit these days.

Like most things in life it's all just practice and confidence really.

Never put the phone down until your totally happy you have the information you called for and don't be afraid to ask someone to repeat something or explain in more detail.

You'll feel twice the fool if you have to phone back. :D

Yep, i'm hopeless on the phone. I always try to use emails etc, where I can think through everything and type it carefully.

lol I am constantly on the phone with work, thing never stops. Calls about most things under the sun!

You get used to it, I was like that on the phone when I was 14/15... you soon get to grips with it. Its only someone talking, not rocket science. It is a confidence thing.

Plus so what if you balls up a call, not like they can see you.

Agreed with BioHazard - working in Credit Control and we make calls all day long, with lots of room for negotiation and striking deals to get the payments in on time.

If it's an improtant call, or for your personal record I always have a notepad and pen to hand.
Take names and times and always get call ID/Log Numbers if you can't get a resolution on your first call.

The phone is like any tool, takes some confidence and practice is all.
If you go to pieces, then simply chalk it up to experience and carry on.

I also think that your facial expressions carry through your voice and I can generaly hear if someone is smiling on the other side
- sure it sounds weird but it's true, as the vocal chords will change the tone/sound of the voice.

Listen next time :)

I get the opposite actually...

When I talk to someone at work (in person), my brain is "buffering" what I want to talk about next and sometimes the bloody "buffer" just breaks down, I even KNOW im about to lose track of what im talking about before it happens.

Very bizarre.

I am a social god.

I don't understand how people can't find it easy to talk on the phone, but, I know it can't be helped!
