I'm fairly surprised that there's no thread for this film. Maybe I missed something.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1024648/

"A dramatization of the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran."

I watched this on Saturday and really enjoyed it. It was really tense and very well acted. It's not loads of spy shoot outs or anything but the predicament of the people involved is really driven home.

Gets an 8 on IMDb, putting it on par with a lot of really good films, if the IMDb score matters to you.

I thought it was bloody brilliant. Affleck is certainly a massive talent behind the camera, I can't wait to see what he does next.

I enjoyed it, don't like him as an actor and there were a few moments near the beginning when I shouted "HOLD THE CAMERA STILL" but I think he got the message because the rest of the film was great watch.

It's mediocre at best sadly. I kinda get what it was trying to do, but they way it went about it was very disappointing. I couldn't engage or care for any of the characters, and thought the ending was poor also.

Sadly, I don't rate Affleck at all..especially as an actor. I certainly don't think he's good enough to be a lead, more so in this film. Only film I think I've liked with him involved was Gone Baby Gone.

I'd give it 4/10.

Interesting. I don't tend to engage with film characters very easily, but I definitely did with the embassy staff involved. Maybe it's because they were so 'ordinary'.

excellent film - few little tweaks to reality just to up the tension works very well

good humour in the hollywood bits and nail biting in the Tehran parts

thumbs up to affleck - well deserved award wins so far

It's good but I'm not sure how it is winning all these awards, it's not that amazing.

This. It's certainly worth a watch, unless you want an action movie, but I'm struggling to see why it got nominated for Oscars etc. For a film where you know the outcome, there's a surprising amount of tension. The look is spot-on too, and I say that as someone who lived through the time in question.

Watched it a while back, I liked it a lot despite knowing the outcome.
The only thing is I feel like I've seen this before, in another form... but I can't remember what/when.. like years ago.

this tbh, i ended turning it off half way through.

Overall a very well acted and directed movie I thought which kept me on the edge of my seat even though I knew the ending beforehand. A few too many "Hollywood" moments however broke the spell for me in what should have been the more dramatic moments hence the lower score than I was expecting at the start. For example the complete re-writing of history to make the US out to be the heroes, the UK & NZ into bad guys and, more unforgivable, making the Canadians out to be nothing more than baby sitters as well as all the airport "action" etc. You know stuff like that :D

I give it a solid 6/10. It would have been higher except for the unnecessary "Hollywood-ification" of an extremely gripping real life story.
