argument about why they should get the expenses

I believe they should build a sort of "student accommodation" for MPs to live in whilst working in london, it would remove the need of an expenses account/second house and would cost the taxpayers a lot less in the long run.

I hate the way she attempts to deflect the matter onto the Telegraph's handling of her privacy, and then proceeds to attempt to emotionally blackmail the audience into feeling sorry for her, by hiding behind her family.

+1

Well put. Politicians. No matter what country, no matter what color they are ALL the same.

My missus lives 100miles away from me as our jobs are in different locations. I have an entitlement to a family life. Do you think my employer will fund a second home for me? Get out of town.

Invasion of privacy? Hmm, we only get to see the things that are claimed as work-related expenses... and since work lives are not supposed to be 'private' I don't see where the invasion of privacy is.

Clearly shows guilt about the things that have been dug up on her expense record.

I'm sure there is accomodation actually at the houses of Parliament and if not then I'm sure there is plenty of room for some. This would negate the need for any additional accomadation expenses and additionally security measures as I am sure the Houses of Parliament already have sufficient security.

I think it would be cheaper for them to just put up in London hotels all year rather than buy and furnish a whole house. The private sector companies manage this way and if anyone knows the cheapest option it'll be them.

My girlfriend lives in Henley. I doubt my employer would let me claim for even a hotel when I visit her for "support", never mind a whole house. Total rubbish!

Scumbags, pigs at the trough, hard working my arse.

This makes me so angry, I have to pay all my taxes and it goes to fund these idiots.

Disgusting.

If her family is based in Southampton why is she MP for Luton?

I think part of them problem is MPs who don't actually seem to live in their constituency. I think it should be assumed an MP already has accommodation in their constituency and allowances should only be payable for a modest London property for their own use.

But as everyone has already said, it's quite clear many of our MPs are completely unrealistic.

Would it not be wonderful if the system actually worked as it was designed to do; where MPs were local (instead of just picking a constituency).
