I don't think that's a bait and switch, it's pretty clear from the trailer that Cavill and Cena are characters in her book.

Oh I agree with that, its just the trailer was made it appear that they are main characters in the film (who are people in the authors book) and not just very, very quick cameos. Even the poster has Cavill front and centre whilst the actual main characters of the film are on the 3rd row, thats where I sense a Bait & Switch.

If it wasn't for that Jeremy Jahns review, I'd have never known and I'd be sodding angry if I spent actual cash money to see a "Cavill as a spy" film (based off the trailer and posters) and instead there was just a 5 minute cameo instead.

Ah yes who could have possibly seen this coming. A film based on a book that hadnt even been published yet. The sceenplay written by a guy responsible for easily the worst ice age movie and PAN, together with a director that has completely lost his way and a studio that delayed its release for an entire year.

Shocked face.

Yeah, turns out the main character in this has the same name as the book author - it's a self insert fan fiction where a cat woman turns out to be the hero

Is it real, or is it some sort of elaborate ruse to tie in with the movie?

Its all a mess. The book author is a ghost writer but it's really two authors: Tammy Cohen and Terry Hayes.

Someone then had the genius PR idea of linking various real life and in book dates to Taylor Swift which then made people think it was Taylor that wrote it....that's where most of the hype came from for the book.

Just out of the cinema and it wasn't nearly as bad as some made out. It's a Matthew Vaughn movie so really cheesy and obviously far fetched and ludicrous in parts but it's meant to be. I personally enjoyed it thought it was a fun, not serious pop corn flick thats reminiscent of the Kingsman movies. 7/10.

Pretty much where I fall, the mid credit stinger links it to the Kingsman world.

The books is a 99p Kindle daily deal so I grabbed it as a potential throwaway read.

Went in with no expectations (didn't know the rumours, comics etc) and it's definitely not as bad as some of the reviews are making it out to be. It has a reasonably interesting storyline line, few good curveballs, a few laughs sprinkled in and a bit of silliness and i would say it's not a bad watch overall.
But i did find it dragged a little in the last 20 minutes and they could have easily made this a 90/100 minute flick without losing too much. And Dua Lipa adds exactly zero to this and they could have had any actor playing that role.

Worth a watch, wait until it's on streaming...

Girlfriend watched it on a recent flight home and I caught parts of it as I was watching something else. It’s looked **** and certainly not worth watching any time soon.
