A remake of the old Ark survival evolved game on UE5 that’s released on early access for steam, for consoles it’s been delayed and will be launching in November.

Well....it's out now

Going by Steam reviews it runs like an absolute turd (even on 4090) but I didn't really expect much better from Wildcard.
I won't bother picking it up until I can confirm that I can self-host a dedicated server as that's how I've always played ARK, but in any case it'll probably be a year at least before it's really in a playable state.

£34 isn’t a bad price considering Starfield and D4 were closer to £70, my kids play as well so will get it for free via steam family share so works out at around £11 for each of us.

Yeah I was expecting £45-50 for the non discounted price, so £37.99 is a pleasant surprise.
I've got over 1300 hours in A:SE so this is definitely high on my list, I'll probably pick it up as soon as someone confirms you can self host a server, just gotta cross my fingers that it'll run ok on 7900XT :D

Until then I've still got Primal Fear, Eternal and a couple of other conversion mods on my list to play, as well as finishing Pugnacia, so plenty to keep me going!

Edit: watching Raasclark play through the first hour at the moment... Seems playable on a 4080 at a mix of mid and high settings

RTX 3080 and can only get 50fps on LOW settings, this is in no way, shape or form a better game.

Big shock, unoptimized mess

Well it appears that while it will be possible to self host, you will need to authenticate (rather than anonymous steamcmd login) and be limited to one server, not a cluster.
Alternatively you can get a license to host your own servers (presumably outside of the above limitations).... If you have a community of 10k active users (I'm guesing this essentially means 'if you are handing them $400k revenue), or are a content creator getting over 5k 'impressions' per content piece....

What an absolute ******* mess  I don't think I'll bother until they sort this out, I expect this will be after the exclusivity deal with Nitrado expires, which seems to be after they have paid them back to over $4M debt, can't see a fixed time period.

Edit: looks like it (i.e. the Windows app store/xbox version) will be on gamepass, so I might give it a go there just to see what it's like, but won't buy it otherwise unless they sort the hosting aspect out

How big is the install, I think Ark on old engine was like 500GB which imo is kinda crazy. I am thinking of getting this as I had some good fun playing it back in the day.

Honestly this is a bloody mess. I'm not at all surprised being that it Wildcard. Asking for more than £10 is mental in itself. Then to add just how un-optimised this is.... Just nah. They showed previous alpha they not a capable games studio and it hasn't got any better tbh.

Streamers are saying it is actually only around 70GB as stated in requirements, tbf ARK:SE got increasingly bloated with patching and DLCs but wasn't too bad to begin with, I think mine with most (not all!) of the official maps installed and some mods was about 380GB. Main issue was the seekfreecontent cache, which essentially doubled the install size and then needed the same size again while installing patches, for no reason that I could make out

Yeah I'm inclined to agree, it looks very nice (caves especially) but needs a lot of work...which going by the first release, may never actually happen! I'd still be up for it though if it wasn't for the server hosting situation + forced overwolf integration for modding, the previous system with steam CMD and Workshop worked well and it sucks that they've changed it (which I'm sure is just because of bad management and debt from the publisher, Snail games)

Yeah, even the original ran pretty poorly on some of the bigger maps, I really hope they do better on optimisation this time but not necessarily expecting it....

MrMeola Episode 1 is up :D I can already feel myself giving in to temptation!

It’s UE5 and as we’ve seen from pretty much every UE5 title so far it’s very demanding, especially since it uses both nanite and lumen.
