Ark Survival Ascended.

UE5 + this particular developer doesn't inspire confidence that this won't be forever an unoptimised mess to be honest.
Should just add a toggle for nanite and lumen as while it looks good it’s just to performance heavy right now, even in Fortnite it kills fps.

Server situation appears to be sorted thanks to a massive outcry from the community (NeddyTheNoodle leading the charge), so I've bought it.

Should have a server up later and will report back on performance etc.
If anyone wants to join the server (PVE, no raiding/trolling etc) then let me know and I can PM the details.
Edit:server will proabably not be child friendly!

Will it be live 24/7? Any interest in doing a PVP one with ORP?

Had a little play, performance is a bit of an issue with a 7900XT :( especially in that tearing was very noticeable and no v-sync setting that I could find. Was getting around 50-60fps with a lot of stuff on medium at 1440p.
Disabling volumetric clouds helped quite a bit (but it looks really good with them on!) and there are some other console command settings I have yet to try. Really hoping they can achieve some decent optimisation gains and/or add FSR support soon!

@TonyTurbo78 - should be live mostly 24/7, except for when doing updates etc (or when an update is needed but I haven't had time to apply it yet!). I won't have masses of time to commit to hosting duties.
I was thinking more PVE but when I played ASE with friends previously we had it technically set as PVP but gentlemen's agreement to not **** people off- I wouldn't want to log in to find my base had been destroyed and all tames killed etc :D
More rambling on the subject of hosting below - don't want to clog up the thread! I'm happy to discuss any aspect of this.... Feel free to PM me :)
One of the guys I'll be playing with used to play PVP public servers so he may be keen to go more that direction but for now I'd rather keep things friendly and enforcing a ruleset seems the simplest way to do that.
I definitely want to just play and experience the game, at least for now, and not feel pressure to play competitively!

If people want to fight it out I'd be very open to having defined PVP events e.g. change it to PVP for an evening and then roll back the save after we're done (or just copy the save over to a separate server instance).

Also, I'm pretty sure my 'server' has enough capacity to host more than one instance at once, so again if there is demand for it I'd be happy to set up a separate PVP server.

Caveat: As this will all be running on my own hardware, I will reserve the right to make changes, especially if I feel it's compromising my security in any way... I hope everyone can understand where I'm coming from there :) - I don't want to build any expectation that this will be a guaranteed ongoing service, but if I ever took it down I'll be happy to provide save files and configs so someone can migrate it to their hardware.

On the subject of configs, I find the default game settings on ASE way too grindy so will definitely be looking to adjust rates/multipliers to keep it enjoyable. I will also likely include ease-of-life mods as these become available (equivalents of S+, Lethals re-useables, awesome spyglass, (maybe) dino storage....stuff of that nature)

If by ORP you mean open role play, then yes, I'd be very happy to have it geared towards that sort of thing (I've been very tempted to get in to GTA5 serious RP via FiveM recently!)

ORP = Offline Raid Protection. PVP is great when set up right, no chicken *@'" offline destroying people hard work. The beauty of ORP is once your tribe is logged out, your base, dinos etc should be relatively safe. Ark doesn't really do PvP, it's more PvB (player versus base) Theres nothing more annoying than logging back on to see your days of work ruined by some punk waiting for your tribe to be offline then walzing in and just nuking everything. PvE is fine for chilled out stuff, but it tends to get quite boring I've always found.

Reason I asked if it's going to be online 24/7 is if you doing a dedicated server running from your hardware at home, are you going to be leaving that PC on 24/7 when not on yourself for others to hop on the server still..Or will it be off at times your at work etc? Obviously costs an arm and a leg in leccy these days.

Ah OK, never heard of that....yeah that sounds acceptable, like you said I just don't wanna do the whole "sweaty PVP, must be online at all times" dynamic!

The server PC is on pretty much 24/7 anyway, I think it's <100w at idle and I always forget to turn it off :P only really gets shut down when I'm away from home for a few days or more.
If anything, the fact people are using it for something else makes it easier to justify leaving it on :)

Honestly this is a bloody mess. I'm not at all surprised being that it Wildcard. Asking for more than £10 is mental in itself. Then to add just how un-optimised this is.... Just nah. They showed previous alpha they not a capable games studio and it hasn't got any better tbh.

I said this on the reddit sub a few days ago, but it shouldnt come as a surprise. The 2017 game was a ballbuster, and the 2023 remake is no different. The thread i replied in the poster was highlighting they used to play ASE on max settings and were annoyed they couldnt on ASA!

I havent bought it, tbh ive been hoping one of the repackers would release it to give it a try first, but no sign yet (it is available elsewhere though). Personally, while i can see its a bit of joke announcing it as a free release/update and then going back on that and saying it'll be £34/38, i dont think the price is entirely unreasonable considering it'll eventually include all of the DLC except Scorched Earth (do we know why??).
If it was £38, or a £10/20 upgrade if you owned ALL of the DLC, then i think that might be a very generous gesture, but honestly i dont think its an unreasonable price for a standalone product. I suspect thats something thats too complicated to do though, might be possible on Steam but there needs to be parity on Xbox & Playstation too.

Considering the all the work that must have gone into bring it to UE5 I don’t mind paying £34 and I’ve already sunk 25 hours in so far, will probably get 1000+ hours out of it with all the DLC so very reasonable in an age when games are releasing for £70 a pop and have much less replay value.

Yeah, my only concern is that i feel like ive done Ark to death already and certainly wouldnt expect to get anything like the same sort of return. However it was always a game i enjoyed, it just felt like i eventually lacked goals or something to keep me interested.
I think the most fun i had returning to content i'd already played was doing a 1-life game on Aberration.

Having read what Nitrado have said about their exclusive rights deal, i certainly feel less bothered by it. Nitrado would probably be the GSP ive used most if i need an online server, but i hate exclusive deals mainly because they're never whats best for the gamer, its great for the developer & hosts, and we have to pay extra to cover that expense, and we have no competition to drive prices down.

Had a mate trying to join tonight and haven't had any success, he keeps getting a connection timeout error :/
Will update again once we get past that bit...
Still causing bother? Not sure if you've seen but the Ark subreddit had a guide for setting it up stickied yesterday (no longer a sticky :( Link )

I'd be interested in joining a PvE server with a handful of QoL mods & reasonable rates. Ive never been into PvP, but i wouldnt mind if those who want it did so and kept it to themselves etc.
I just like playing solo, working on a nice base and locating decent dinos, and occasionally joining someone else when looking for something. My old server has been striped and replaced with an off the shelf NAS now :(

I think the only mods not mentioned which i used to use were for taming: Appetite (makes them hungry so they scoff) & tranq rifle + scope mod, simply because vanilla either slots the scope/silence or the tranq ammo. I used to just disable most of the engrams so it was just 1 consumable and 1 weapon (longneck).

Got the hosting issues sorted, thanks for the pointer :) - I thought I'd port forwarded but it wasn't working as intended, all working fine now :) .... Had meant to update here but obviously forgot.

Info on server in spoiler:
Not running any mods at the moment, as there aren't many out yet and I haven't really looked... I'm also not sure really sure how that's gonna function, as with ASE it was all steam workshop and just added the mod IDs in to the start command, but now is curse/overwolf.
I would really like to add a stacking/weight mod (among other things) and as a workaround had suggested to the guys I'm playing with that I increase weight carry per level for player and tames, but they weren't keen on the idea..... Constantly encumbered and it's annoying the hell out of me :D

Other tweaks I've made so far are around 2-3x multis on XP, taming speed and KO food drain speed, a few tweaks for quicker breeding/raising/imprint and (massively!) increased structure damage resistance - I'm not fond of having to rebuild my base because something ripped through it, let alone losing all my resources if I don't get to the bags on time :)

Would be happy to have you join (as well as any other member of the forum community!), as you said I'm not looking to have open PvP but happy for pre-arranged skirmishes etc. with consent of all parties involved.

Currently we're all in one tribe (only 3 of us so far) but if you'd rather stay separate then that's fine too :) I figured we'd want to club together for boss fights and stuff, although they're perfectly possible solo.

I'll probably start a discord so we can all communicate either in game or to agree config changes and stuff, I'm already in a discord with the people that are playing but it's not mine so wouldn't want to invite a load of people!

Once I've done that I'll PM you the details (and/or post the discord link here), hopefully get that sorted tomorrow (@TonyTurbo78 I'll send them your way too if you want in)

Tempted to get this, from what I have seen it runs quite well if you have RTX 4090 :)
If you enjoyed ASE, do it!

A guy I'm playing with says he's getting above 60 on a 3070ti on low settings, which looks at least as good (probably better) as ASE on Epic, IMO.

P.S. Also, please feel free to join my server :D
