My specs are:

GTX 780
8GB Ram
i5 3570k

I have settings on high/ultra and 2xAA and my FPS wont go about 35 atm, ive played and had it at 40-50fps constantly at the same settings, i play another time, they drop to 30 max.........

can anyone help?

In editor or online?

Arma 3 is extremely cpu dependent, especially online with loads of players, fps will differ drastically depending server and what's going on in it.

Try overclocking your cpu if you haven't already.

Its online, when im playing Wasteland, sometimes it runs fine at a good 45-50 fps, but then it can suddenly drop on 30 fps and stay there :/

And possibly a bad server/

This tbh. FPS varies greatly due to the server oddly enough, I have exactly the same setup as you and on some servers its fine and on others its barely 30fps.

If you are playing Arma 3 do yourself a favour and play Breaking Point. You will get a solid 60fps and the mod is extremely fun/optimised :)

mine used to do this when i had intel speed stepping enabled. to play arma 3 online i had to turn it off. Playing sinlge player worked perfect so maybe its something you could try

biggest FPS killer is object draw distance. That will really eliminate FPS like no tomorrow. Above 2k on object draw and you'll see huge drops.

Standard view distance can comfortably go up to 6k on a high end system, with drops starting to happen beyond the 6k mark.

PiP and clouds are big performance hits (as well as the normal AA and such)

Generally a sever with sub 15fps (server side) will heavily effect client FPS and smoothness.

a lot of the fps problems are as many have said are due to overscripted or under optimized servers. Try to find good ones.

Also even on high end rigs dont max the draw and object details to max you dont need it.

Shadows also play a role as they are cpu driven in most games so you could try them turned down or off they dont really make that much of a impact anyhow to the visuals imo. Tho i think turning them down one notch from max is not too bad tho. There are various tweak guides out there too.

Also very important is the shortcut commands. Use them. It helps a ton.

About SSD's. Yeah if you can put it on one. Helps a bit too with loading and streaming data.
