Arma 3. Have they improved how it runs yet?

After a couple of hundred hours of Elite Dangerous, I have finally found it out for the incomplete product full of randomly generated and utterly pointless placeholder missions, that it is.

I did however get something from playing that game that you just don't get from the consolified modern games.

Looking for something to replace it. I bought Arma 3 upon release on Steam. It was a huge download (especially for someone still on ADSL), and I played about 20 minutes of it before turning it off in total disgust at the horrible choppy performance, despite the visuals looking like something from 10 years ago.

In short, have the developers patched it up into a decent state yet, or would I be wasting my time downloading it and installing?

It runs much better that release

They've definitely improved the performance in the game since release and are constantly developing the game, not like these other developers that start developing a new game in the series.

It definitely depends on the server/mission/mod. I average 90fps on some servers. But if I go on KOTH I'll only get 35fps minimum. That's maxed out, 1080p, max AA/PP with 3k view.

I've found it depends on the map quite a lot.

We play Epoch on Chenaraus and we all get decent frames, we also play king of the hill on other maps and we get 25-30fps less :/.

It runs a damn sight better than Arma 2 though which is a bonus.

Why does arma 3 run so bad when the graphics look like 10 years old ? and bf4 runs perfect maxed out and looks 100x better, i have never worked that out.

It doesn't run bad at all, it's all about what you're doing. (Not...entirely true, but again, depends what you're doing)

Running tons of unchecked mods on a badly made custom mission online?
Yeah, that's why. Playing single player? Well now add your cpu taking time to do all the AI calculations too.

It's all about meeting realistic expectations, if ARMA had maps the size of BF4 and had rudimentary physics calculations it would run so much better.

I linked this in the other thread, but it's worth checking out to understand why it does what it does, and why it doesn't if you cross that line of "okay how much am I trying to push past whats realistically possible on todays hardware?"

Am in processing of giving it another try.......still very very scrappy considering it has been out for over a year.....definintely impressed with the landscape but so much of the gameplay mechanics seem so yesteryear and the frame rate is not great....and I am only playing 'Bootcamp' at the moment.

Watched the video and my initial thoughts were....."that is the free market for you".

What does the end consumer care how much blood sweat and tears have went into a particular product? It either hits his buttons, or it doesn't. He either finds the quality of the product to his liking, or he doesn't. If his sniping at the makers of the product (generally the first step towards losing interest and discarding the product), hurts the feelings of those who made it, or doesn't inspire them to improve it....too bad. The complainer will move on to other things, and the user base of the product will decrease.

I will try to gradually get into this game....I am sure it might have some potential after the initial 'induction period', but sitting here doing the tutorial is just making me pine for some quick instant action.....

....BF4 it is!

Single player in Arma has pretty much always been terrible. Get involved in some proper mp missions.

Yeah....but got to learn to play the game first....Arma isn't exactly your standard generic shooter....seems to me like it will take quite a large amount of hours in just getting to grips with the game before I can go n00bing about on an actual server full of people who know what they are doing with a low tolerance threshold for stupid n000000000bs!!!

You can waste time learning it the bad way, then be equally as much of a "stupid noob" and then have to force yourself to forget it all and RE learn it properly.

Or you can just learn it properly first :) Get online, this game SUCKS single player. Its all about the constant learning, evaluating, working together to accomplish tasks and overcome obstacles as a team, either against AI or against players.

That first time you conduct a real textbook ambush against real people you've lured into a trap using your skills and teamwork and coordination... its amazing.

wtf is he on about just because a game is open world sandbox with mods doesn't mean it has to run like ass...

plenty of open world games ran great it's like saying any total conversion mods for any game make the fps a dive it's just arma the engine is crap

Dyslexi is a paid mouth piece for BIS, he should be ignored in conversations like this.

Arma is Arma, it will never run as well as BF because that is how it has been since time began.

Accept it isn't BF and enjoy it for what it is - the Only online military simulator.

The only way to play arma is to join a proper Arma clan and play organised custom missions.

Avoid all the pretenders that play zombies and those crappy random generated mission servers like epoch or whatever, they are horrible and strip out all that is good about Arma.
