I bought my copy of Arma 2 off Steam. I finally decided to give it another go last night and noticed my version was 1.04. I wonder why Steam hasnt updated it? Auto updates are obviously on by the way.

If I update the game via a patch will that mess up Steams updating of it? Has this 1.05 patch been out long? Anyone else got this problem?

Right now those questions are all asked, here's another couple of things.

I have post-processing turned off to stop that blurry effect.

I have 3d resolution at the same as my game resolution.

Is there anything else I should do?

I also have the Steam edition and found that I needed to download and install the latest patch (1.05) manually. I play this game on my Acer 8935g laptop and this latest patch has sped the game up considerably. Why this isn't on Steam I don't know as the patch has been out for a while.

Download the ACE2 core & coreX files along with the Community Base files. These are now 'standard' enhancements used in multiplay as well as single player mods & downloadable missions. If you have used mods with Armed Assault before, installation is easy, just that with Steam, you need to put the command lines in the Steam > Game Properties > Launcher menu rather than a desktop shortcut.

If you want the blurring back on, reduce textures and shadows, then re-enable Post Processing. I like it, but then others don't. Also reduce the view distance, unless you want to fly a lot. It is a case of finding the right balance for your needs. You can edit a config file to change the post processing effects, google this or visit Armaholics website for more info.
 
Ok thanks so if I download the patch will it find Arma automatically or do I have to point it to the Steam folder?

Personally I like the blurry stuff OFF, it gives me motion sickness. I've got head bob off too which helps a lot.
 
Hi there you go to there main site download the 1.05 patch and use that BUT YOU MUST turn off auto update for that game as said in instructions.

WOOOT FOR ARMA :P
 
Just run the .exe

It was done this way so they could update all versions at the same time instead of having to send updates to Valve and wait for them to be processed.

Quiet a smart move I think.
 
Aha so Steam wont be providing the update - ok many thanks I'll download it when I get home.

Is the Ace stuff good then? It seems to be, but I dont know about mucking around with command lines - a simple soul me - is Ace primarily for multiplayer I suppose?

I've not tried MP with it yet, but may well do :)
 
Yes ACE stuff is 100% sweeeeeet adds a hell of a lot to ARM2.

For me its what ARMA 1 and 2 should have been on release but then I do like things realistic and over the top hehe.

P.S

Can be an ass to install for some but worth all the head ache for me.

It's not really, you can download the ACE 2 1.0 which is an exe install. This makes installation easy.

But if you want to run Ace with the latest versions (Updated twice a week) you need to install SixUpdater which some people have issues with, but is well worth the 10 minutes install time.

SixUpdater is basically an automatic mod management/update system, and you can update more than ace through it such as maps (isla duala, Podagorsk) and other addon packs.

as said I had no problems using the six updater but some of the muppets on the BIS forums just cant get it.

And as Rexhuk said 1000000% worth the time to get it installed and running.

ACE changes the game to be much more realistic, one good feature I noticed was reflective background on some of the weapon lenses. The other is the massive tweaks to AI, notch the AI skill up and they are deadlier, firing to cover and sneak around using the environment. Knock the skill down and the AI fires wildly as if inexperienced and panicky.
 
Ummmm do ya need post processing on to see this reflective lense thingy if so thats why ive never seen it hehe.

But I all so like the flash bangs,gas grenades,gas masks,tactical glasses,needing to actualy check wind speed etc :) list goes on for ever.

I am all ways a sniper. and I will moan about the worst thing of arma 1 and 2 even ofp had this issue and thats looking at units a long way through a scope they warp its not my pc its not ping its a known issue I think cant be fixed :(

Still the best game out there tho
 
You can install ACE fine, just don't enable it when you want to play the defacto SP campaigns :) (simply put, don't add the @ACE2 mod line in the shortcut.)
