Arpara 5K VR micro OLED headset

Tying a headset down using cables is a retrograde step, being able to walk around a room with no cable to trip over or get entangled is the way forward.

tethered is of course not an issue for sitdowns like simulators or elite etc, and so can certainly see a light high-res headset being a big upgrade for that usage model.

So I guess it's horses for courses.

Yeah definately. I just want VR for sim racing really.

The AIO headset from arpara can wirelessly stream steam vr games according to vrfocus.com. so its like a quest. hmm thats tempting me now :D

i dont think visual fidelity (or audio in the quest's case) is near the level where we can move from a tether easily.

altho I also enjoy tetherless VR for casual experiences, the bigger more impactful games like HLA, LE2... really need to be pushing the highest fidelity possible FOV, Resolution and colour wise from display perspective whilst reaching minimum 90hz.

The more i find out about this the more it sounds interesting. For me, its sounding like the quest 3 that facebook should've announced. I bet (and hope) someone mods it so oculus/quest games can be played on it.

Face trackin', lip syncin' data grabbin'....... nope, I think I'd rather have a can of full fat coke, wide FOVl and a crystal clear image. I think I'm out with oculus/fascistbook/meta.....

Time will tell with the new oculus headset, but I think they are going the more the social / wireless route which is to be expected. That's fine, seems to be selling well. I'm looking more towards the best PC experience, so require a cable. That's my preference.

This for me. It's a shame to exclude the oculus but I'm done with facebook trying to own me.

Supposed to be released in 5 days time
I got an email saying the kickstarter starts in 5 days time, when i asked when they would start shipping they said feb 2022.
I wanted to back the kickstarter for the tethered version but ive seen no reviews that say the tracking is ok. MRTV did a vid on it when it had nolo tracking and he said basically it wasn't good.
They've since made a vive basestation/lighthouse add on tracking module but no one, that i can find, has tested it and given feedback, so i'm not parting with my cash as yet.
The AIO version ive seen less feedback on than the tethered. To me, that's a real shot in the dark to back that one. What's the inside out tracking like? Can it successfully wirelessly stream pcvr games? Arpara say it can but ive not seen it tested.

Yeah, zero information on it. I'm hanging fire.

Here's a vid from arpara (wish it was from someone independent, but better than nothing) demonstrating the AIO:

Here's a vid of someone (independent?) demonstrating the base station tracking module for the tethered version:

I'm undecided if to back tomorrows (14th) kickstarter, and if i do, which 1 out of the AIO or tethered to back

I don't care how good the graphic bump is or how much better the tracking is, I can't go back to tethered Roomscale gaming. So I know what my choice would be.

This isn't much help to you of course. :)

Well it is a help tbh, i do get what u mean. The AIO can do wireless or tethered, plus u dont need additional base stations or controllers. If i back it, i think it will be the AIO. Its a risk though :D

haha, yeah, it's a risk. Too risky for me. I was thinking of backing Decagear, but look what's happening there. Looks like nobody is going to go get their pre-order.

with the way the world is at the moment, I wouldn't back any VR headset kickstarter unless it had some big name behind it.

As much as your post makes me a little :( i know its the most sensible option to give it a miss, so might just do that.
I have the varjo aero on pre-order, already have a quest 2 and 8kx, how many headsets does one need :D

Sorry to bring you news that might mean you won't get your one millionth headset :p

It's all good getting these products and backing them but more importantly whats the support like afterwards? I always think of the long run when looking at these, if they'll even be around once they release the product and sold X amount. It makes me very wary of them.
