Hi,

Someone in my immidiate family has been arrested for "damaging a police vehicle". Said person has a job drivingm and is a respectible charachert etc. Now I assume that tehre was a car crash considering he was at work and would have been.... driving.

So obviously i have questions as to how they can justify arresting them. I phoned general police number (2222222) and they confirmed someone was being held, but refused to tell me where, how long, on what ground and would no let me speak to them....... Grrrrrrr :mad:

Sorry not much point to the thread just fuming / worried, and wondering if I can get any info regarding the somehow? It's almost comical to hear he's arrested considering his age and respect for the law and carfull driving! :(

Seriously though, just wait til it blows over an hour or two, they should tell you.

Thats not true and is an Americansm almost.

When arrested, people have 3 main rights.

1) They have a right to have someone informed thay have been arrested.
2) They have a right to free and independant legal advice by a solicitor either on the phone or in person.
3) They have a right to consult with the PACE Codes of Practice which governs police powers and procedures.

They can do any of those things there and then or at any time while in police detention.

As for the OP, I would wait and see what transpires as there will invariably be more to it than it seems.

The police are not obliged to tell you they are holding and what for.
 
I will wait, nothing else I can do. I just thought i could get some information but obvously not.

Yes you can say "oh the drama" etc, but it's something im not used to so it is drama for me.

How is it not true? Number one in your list makes it true. The person making that call can either be the police or the person who has been arrested. It doesnt matter which. Unfortunately, from very recent experience, I know this to be the case.

I was only taking the ****, it's what I do.

Time to play the waiting game, sorry for this spam like thread by the way! I might as well let you all know the full story later too.

To demand a phone call is not a right under PACE. The right to have someone informed of your arrest does not mean a phone call. Example being the custody sergeant asking who they want informing and thay say Mr X whose number they don't know but they do know where they live. That would involve a personal call to the house to inform them.

Another example is if someone is arrested and wanted to make a call that he wouldn't be out that night and wanted to tell a mate but didn't want to tell him he'd been arrested. That call would likely be refused.
 
OK,

He has been sat in a cell and interviewed since 3:00. This is the story the police have come up with:

Apparently on Saturday he was signalled to pull over. They claim he stopped, and then reversed and RAMMED a police car, injuring the cop and damaging the car. The police were then apparently in persuit, but the his pickup out paced the Focus.

The only problem with this statement is that the incident is nothing to do with us, if it did happen or not!

Apparently they took his Reg and it was a white pickup. And he does indeed drive a white pickup. Apart from the fact on their statement the lights are placed somewhere different to our company pickup and they failed to notice the massive logos? Oh and the fact our pickup has no damage and months of dirt on the rear bumper etc.

The pickup with £xxxx or kit is now impounded for forensics. There are so many holes in the polices fabricated story it is unbelievable. I'm absolutely shocked that they are persuing this!

Been bailed until november. Massive inconveniance but we are not worred about any conviction etc, as this did not happen... unless therer is a cloned pickup out there.

I not longer trust the police, nor do any of my family. How can they say they had his no. plate when he was not there! :mad:

by which i mean some scrote has noted your pickups reggy plates and put a copy of the plates on a similar pick up to do all manner of bad things including ramming police cars it seems
 
From rotting my brain watching too many police chase tv shows, won't they have a camera that would have filmed the incident, including a nice look at the plates if said incident had happened?

Police car did not have camera.

Quite easily if someone else has put a copy of his plates on their pickup.
If he didn't do it then there's nothing to worry about, it'll sort its self out.
