Well, i just recieved anoter gpu from the bay, so thought id give it a bash and test it, firstly it meant removing my 2 that were in (both with water blocks on)

so i unclip the clips, un screw the screws, move the tube rez out of the way so i could remove the cards without having to undo my loop, and then all i saw was my 2 gpu's fall out, pulling half of a PCI slot with it =(

it litterally has broken in half though

has anyone ever "swapped" any of these around? from the looks of the broken half, there was only a very small plastic clip holding it on.

I doubt it, even if you could get a spare part, there's no way you'd be able to solder all the connections by hand.

You are either going to have to send the board back to the manufacturer, or buy a new one I'm afraid.

What board was it dave and which slot?

I have seen it before (well, a gigabyte sniper on the mm with one of the x16 slots snapped like that).

Looks like its from an x8 lane, as they're only soldered half way, the slot may still work just be a fiddle getting it to sit in place.

Oh man...

This went from being a nuisance job to being a downright nightmare. You may have to change mobos now which will be rebuild job :(

its a z77x UP-7

http://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/316/images/overview.html

it is a x8 slot, but looking at the mobo, there is a little pin at the back of the slot (where this has snapped from) that would need to be in place, ive fiddled with it for a while, but cant get it to work again =(

looks like its a case of rebuying the board (ive just ordered a water block for it, so didnt really want to get a different one yet, but il have a look whats available!

aaah screw it, a couple beers later and ive just gone and bought a replacement one.... same as i had before, i did think aboug getting the z87 but cant afford to buy a new processor at the moment as well as everything else ive bought this week!

its snapped where there are no pins, but at the end of the connector there is 1 pin (not sure what that does, probably just telling it its a longer card.

and no, il be using 3 GPU's but its the middle slot thats broken, so i either way, i need to use it.

tbh i cant be bothered mess around with it, it is working now mind, (ive got 2 cards in atm, 1 of them in the broken slot) but ive ordered another board too.

You can sell the old board if it still runs ok I got one off these forum`s with a broken pcie slot should help get back some cash.
