Just spent 4 hours building a new PC finally got everything installed and now the bloomin HD has gone and died how stupidly harsh is that! Here's hoping check disk can get it going long enough to image off onto a new drive!

It was an old drive I take it? What was it? Mine completely died all of a sudden last summer, hadn't backed up anything on it as I generally do that every 3-4 weeks if that (back then) now I backup all the time. That was an IBM deskstar, soon as it came out of the case I used the lumphammer on it.

120GB Maxtor only a couple of years old damn piece of poo, wouldn't be so bothered if I hadn't just wasted an evening downloading 100MB of windows updates and digging out all my cd's etc!

I guess you won't be investing in one of those again, I always keep away from Maxtor's heard bad stories about them. Least you know for real now. Is any of the data retrievable or is it completely dead the thing?

Looks like it's going tobe a proper deadun chkdsk is just looping, fortunately it's only a clean install so no data at risk just time and effort! Think i'll be doing a quick back up of all my other important data this evening though as you know what they say about bad luck comming in threes!
