Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas wary of Ipswich threat

Why would teams bother to pass around Arsenal when you can beat them from one ball over the top or at set pieces.

The ball is round not oval both have 11 players to start with and they both play to the same rules, yet playing different is anti football, no its football, adjust your tactics to the style of play the opponents is playing.
I'm glad we have someone from Wigan here to teach us the intricacies of rugby.

Don't let the fact it is very common and newspaper worthy to think that Arsenal/their players/fans blanket hate certain types of football so therefore they hate England.

Or that words can be twisted out of what they say to fit this supposed hatred. Even of course when Cesc is actually ruing a bit of bad luck that lost us the game or that this very thread is about how respectful he is of his opponents.. It's not like a top player or a top side has ever rued a team which has parked the bus (absolutely fine), or disrupted our play fairly (absolutely fine).

No Arsenal fan, nor the manager has been annoyed at how Ipswich have played - heck:

Fair play to Ipswich, they're having a right go at us and deserve to be at 0-0, maybe more.

Perhaps when a few Premiership sides loudly pronounce they play to 'get in our faces' this and Leeds on Sat is what they're really aiming for.

Posted during the game itself at 0-0.

I wouldn't even trust him with learning the intricacies of taking a **** let alone anything else.

Ipswich are world renowned to playing football as it should be played (harks back to the Bobby Robson days), I watched the game and Ipswich just outplayed Arsenal.

Arsenal were ****** end of, not much more to add, they are a top four side in England and have won **** all in the last five years, says a lot about the club and the fans really.

What does it say about the fans?

OH and nice way to get around the censoring system...

I can't say I have much of an opinion of Ipswich, don't like that Norris dude.

T'was a good result for them, but I'm in two mins, Arsenal could easily produce a Chelsea style score line in the second leg, or could fall apart ala the first leg.

Either way, I think Wenger will put out a team closer to his first choice.

Will be interesting to see what the 2nd leg brings, I would like to see Ipswich walk all over Arsenal again but to be honest I can't see it happening. I'm sure Arsenal will up their game plan.

And your comment says a lot about you as a person

I'm sorry, but that's bull****.

The Gunners captain said: ‘I don’t know if it is long ball or it is a rugby kick, but it worked for them.

‘In England, a lot of teams play like that and it works for them. They create chances like that and it is their football. We just have to put the ball on the floor and try to play football, that is what we do.

‘Credit to them because they played well, but Arsenal made the football. The other team refused to play (and) they were lucky to score with a long ball.

‘I can only remember two opportunities for them, but it was from a long, long ball because playing football they could not really get behind us or attack. It is a bit disappointing because I think we were the much better team.’

The first paragraph is just a cheap shot.

The second is just the usual sanctimonious Arsenal rubbish, the 'we are the saviours of football, how dare anyone stop us'.

The third is the most snide of the lot, saying congratulations for playing well but then saying they were lucky when most neutral observers and some Arsenal fans (as above) thought Ipswich were by far the better team. That wasn't just from long balls.

The fourth is just deluded.

1) Cheap shot? He's describing it as he sees it.
2) No, that's a rival fan making up his own meaning of a player's words when he hasn't been derogatory at all. That is the state of football in this country, it's barely evolved over the years - note the winners of recent major competitions and give me some long ball / hoof champions. Too many teams play like this, and when it's done fairly he's not really stating issue with it, but merely saying to try and beat them using a wholly different approach. But of course when it's been done very unfairly in the past and we've been right to criticise it, people assume that any future gripe is with the same attitude. Has Cesc come out and moaned that we've been fouled left right and centre? No, but because when in the past we had and complained, people are assuming we're still doing so now in the same vein.

3) see 2) Yes he is coming off as frustrated at not being able to break them down, but then who wouldn't be? Aren't teams at the top allowed to be sore losers? ;). You're telling me a UTD player has never at the end of the game rued an opponent who has come over and parked the bus?

At the end of the day take what you want from it, much much more is being made from his words than is really necessary.

It's not about "ruing an opponent that has parked the bus", it's about an incredible level of arrogance and a generally poor attitude from Arsenal as a club. Can you imagine an Arsenal player in the days of Keown, Adams, Vieira and Parlour coming out and crying because the other team didn't let them win? Wenger seems to have instilled a really bad attitude in his players and left them unable to admit their own failings.

Moreover, as someone said elsewhere, football is about skill but it's also about strategy and if your strategy continually lets you down in the same way it's obviously flawed.

Didn't Arsenal send any scouts up to see Ipswich play.. I've watched them a few times and they are renowned for the route one stuff. Very dangerous to play attacking full backs against a side like this.. (wasn't this how Arsenal used to play :0 ) However, Ipswich got stuck in and the goal was collected and put away well enough. Arsenal defenders appeared not to know whether to come forward, back or go for a pik-nic.

Not really, it's a joke that the club captain comes out and bitches about how a team struggling in a lower league played against a team consistently in the champions league - what does he expect them to match Arsenal up and play Barcelona like against them? Dream on Csec Ipswich are in a lower league and are struggling in that league, that goes hand in hand with the quality of football not being that good.

The only criticism that should be made is the fact that Arsenal lost and that the club captain should be looking closer to home if he wants to have a rant about something.

Where has Cesc or any other Arsenal player said it's our god given right to win? We have never said that, somehow that tenacious link has been made because of the nature of some of our opponents in the past. It's frankly boring now.

He has, and so has Wenger. They've both said they have to get on with it in the second leg.
