(Art) They do it deliberately....

I'd give up if I were you. Trying to get some people here to grasp the idea of modern art is about as pointless as trying to get a My Chemical Romance fan to appreciate Biomechanical.

I thought that he might have been able to understand that nobody was questioning the originality of the medium...If I were, I would have said that chalks, pastels and paints aren't original.

The problem with the whole 'Is it art?' debate is that people confuse the question 'Is it art?' with 'Is it good art?'

A 2 year old can produce art, but most 2 year olds don't produce good art. Given the subjective nature of taste in art i would define art as anything that was designed to be art. That doesn't make it good art.

I think it was after some piece of tripe showed up last year they had the artist on the news.
Q. What makes this a piece of art then?
A. I'm an artist and i made it, so it's art.

I would agree completely that if an artist makes it intending it to be art, then it is art. It just isn't necessarily any good.

Hang on...You think someone drawing already-existing objects and concepts (such as a coke bottle or Spiderman) are original ideas (no apostrophe) whilst you think a genuinely original idea is "completely worthless"?

**** me, I thought this forum's average IQ couldn't get any lower...

he uses existing 'idea's and themes' on an original canvas. Putting a few twigs in a room and leaving it isnt original, canadians do it all the time for their wood stocks.

If I've got a low IQ its only riding at he same level as your level of comprehension.
