I was browsing a few tech sites and saw this one linked...

I'm sure lot of people here will know everything that this article covers but it's a reasonable read for those less in the know.

Anyway, I was reading through the lag measurement section and was scratching my head as to why he chose to use two lcds rather than a CRT + LCD combo. He does eventually admit that the Dell 30inch has around 10ms lag over a CRT but it just seems he wants to demonstrate how bad the input lag on the Samsung 244T is in comparison to the Dell rather than focus on the larger picture (no pun intended).

Only if you're in Through Mode. But then the Image Quality is compromised from what I've seen!

the NEC is good, but damn that ghosting problem and that overdrive is a bit annoying too! :)

well 20/30ms that's reaction time, i suppose in FPS games it would be quite critical, however in any other gaming situations i can't see it being much of a problem when you have MOMPG then it's more server critical such as WoW when u in a dungeon and the rest of the server is also happen to be in there, you won;t be worrying about that 30ms but the 30s server lag :)

that ghosting can be annoying, but none existent on my HP LP2275W S-PVA panel.

you seem to be wording it like its some conspiracy and that CRT's are being overlooked. What its more like is, if I go to the top 15 shops that sell comp parts, you can't find even a remotely decent CRT for sale amongst them, a few cheapo 17-19" models occasionally. If you've got a CRT, thats fine, but if you need to buy a new screen you'll almost certainly be buying a LCD, in which case the article is about what to look for in terms of overdrive, when buying a new LCD.

Actually as far as I can tell the largest uk retailer sells around 250 different screens and now they are all LCD's. Last year you could still get a 17/19" with from what I recall one model of each, neither were even close to "top end" models and would be small and still low refresh rate screens. Basically CRT's are irrelevant, so in this case they reviewed a LCD with almost no input lag, vs one of the generally considered to be worst cases of overdrive.

remember also that crt's don't have overdrive or input lag, so in an article discussing how much they effect usage comparing a crt to an lcd wouldn't be a particularly good comparison either. You can get lcd's with and without overdrive, so comparable, you can't get a crt WITH overdrive/input lag, but when looking at the difference in a type of screen you'd have to compare lcd to lcd.
