Article Writing / Design / Layout Software?

Just wondering if you've used any article layout software that's free / cheap. What do you recommend?

Scribus is an open-source page layout package I've used, but I don't rate it very highly.

When I was working on the school magazine years ago, we used Adobe Pagemaker which took a lil getting used to but after we did, was very good for making the magazine - easy to place pages and change them around and columns etc.

Not sure if it's free though.

Perfect I think we're running it at work for datasheets. I'll have a dabble cheers.
