hey just thought its about time to OC my BFG 8800gts 512mb OC and ive already got rivatuner 2.09 and want to start fiddling, just wondering what sort of core, shader and memory clocks people have gotten?

ive done some reading and its best just to change the performace 3D settings so ive unlocked the sliders and ready to get going..... im trying to get 3dmark to do sopme testing but its taking ages to download it so i could just use some games to check the temps and artifacts but i remember on my laptop the ati prog had a small artifact window constantly runn to see if any ghosting or artifacts occured.... just wondering if theres a stand alone prog that will do this and display the errors if i push the card too far?

also whats more curcial to overclock out of the three settings? and if i max out one and get it stable then work on the next setting will i not be able to get as high on that setting? if you get me?

sorry im such a noob at this :p

i had my asus 8800gts running at 800 core,2000 shaders and 1ghz on the memory from day one 24/7 fan profile was set to 80% so i knew it would do more but liked the round numbers i got so never pushed it any further

now got 800 core 1970 shaders and 1100 mem without the yellow dots and no errors :D woop :) gets a bit toasty at 64c with 56%fan :) if im playing loud i can bump that up to 70% hehe just wondering what temps are safe with these cards????

... also just noticed one thing, when i run the OC values can hear the gfx card making a lil noise when im running the atitool arti finder thingy.... found out its whe i change the memory values higher values is higher pitch, lower values lower pitch.... any one else get this :S
but just been playing UT3 and BF2 and it doesnt make the noises in game? maybe its just that prog?

Furmark (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/) or the built in artifact scanner on ATI tool are both better to test for artifacts than games cos they fully stress the GPU.

Use riva tuner to control the fan speeds. Have mine set to gradually increase as the temps go up. If i fix my fan at 40% my card maxes out at 90ºC then freezes the PC. With the rivatuner settings, min temp is 53ºC (on a cold day, 56ºC on a hot one) at 43% fan speed and max temp it get to is 75ºC at which point the fan has sped up to about 65%.

Fan is inaudible up to 50% and after that i'm in game, usually with headphones, so dont hear it anyway.

Use this guide by Vague Soft http://www.vaguetech.com/index.php?pageid=rt207 and scroll down about 2/3 of the way to "Advanced Automatic Fan Control" no need to make the fan profiles. There is a useful Excel document that u can input desired temps into to see how it will affect fan speed too.

wow awsome thanks ill look at it now, i was tryign to get the fan speed to increase with temp before but it didnt work :( so hopefulyl this one will work :D hehe

just ran the 3dmark vant bench and seems to be a little lower than other peoples :( also well im upping different settings in riva at a time but noticing that in the hardware mon (espically with shader) that its not always the value you set it too, for instance when upping the shader it only seems to register step values like i set it to 1970 but in the monitor it says 1944 and wont change till i up it to 1972 in riva, which the monitor then says 1998.... is this ture that the shaders only work at these intervals? or is the monitor lying to me?

also when trying to find the max values using riva and ati whats the best way to go about it? up the core till it starts pumping out errors, then the shaders then the mem? or up them all a bit at a time? how long should it be with out errors for to be suitable? is one error every now and then alright liek 3 mins apart or is something too high? how can i identify whats causing it and will just lowering that solve it or is it a combination between all 3 values?

lol i know i suck :p but if you could help i will give you cookie :)
