Artifacts no overclock wtf

with my 8800gtx on default setting there are artifacts present on the screen temps reached 82c, when the graphic card is overclocked there arnt any artifacts and temps don't peak 70c this doesn't make sense! what could be causing these artifacts? and could the card be damaged

If it artifacts out of the box, RMA it.

Are you changing fan settings when you you overclock?

i have changed the fan speed, but it still runs hotter with no oc, ive only seen exploding artifacts on the witcher could this be a driver problem or could the card be broke ? ive still got 6 months cover with dell

Have you changed the driver and had problems since? If so, roll back.
If you're using the latest WHQL driver though, and it's artifacting without an overclock, it's most likely borked.

Have you tried a suicide overclock at all at some point? If so, that may have killed it.

nope the highest overclock i've done was core 650 memory 940 temps never peaked 75c however i saw a few artifacts with the memory on 940, lowered it down straight away, restarted the pc-no artifacts on startup only on games

Hope you have on board graphics or a spare card in the mean time.

thanks for the response, do you think ive caused these problems by overclocking, ive had it like that for 5 days (about 4 hours a day) never seen one until i took the oc off

Yes, its possible, but not definate.
Not that it will affect your RMA though.

Thanks, just emailed dell, i think the fan might be going on card, with the fan on 100% there is very little air coming from the back of the card temps reached

gpuz says 82.5c
