OK, whats happening is I'm getting lots of small dots (of varying colour) on initial boot, then 1 small red dot on the windows loading screen which flashs away quite quickly. It then boots into windows and everything seems fine & dandy, thats until I load EvE Online, play for about 1minute and the screen starts flashing in different places, eventually the comp will just lockup and BSOD with an ATi driver error. I've reinstalled windows as well.

Does this sound like a graphics card duff?

system spec:
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
Intel E6600
Corsair HX520 PSU
2gig Geil ram (can't remember which, but it has the orange ramsink sleeves on them)
Connect3d X1900XT
250gig seagate

Well I spoke to OCUK technical support & they said it was most likely the graphics card up the shoot. RMA on its way. having to use the old A64 3000+ with 1gb ram and an old X800pro for my gaming addication now ;(

Can they still RMA a X1900XT? if so im supprised as there out off production now?!

na the old X800pro is an AGP, so eve now runs like a pig :s

I have no idea, either way it appears buggered, and its just within warranty.(nov 07 would be 1 year) if they don't have any of them in stock, i'm assuming they will give me an X1950XT, i don't know, tbh I don't care, as long as it can run eve ok.

Ok got a reply today from OCUK, am being shipped a HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 V2 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express), how comes I get a HIS card now? not that i'm complaining just intrested tbh.

Could be any reason...Lack of stock on other cards...Other cards not being made any more? The HIS card being all they have in stock?

Either way, HiS card's tend to be pretty solid, my 9700pro was a HiS card and I didn't have any fault with it =]

Is the X1950Pro not worse than the X1900XT due to less shaders or whatever...?

Edit: Tomshardware overall scores certainly seems to think so... How much did you pay for your X1900XT? I wouldn't be happy with that "upgrade" unless I was given a small credit refund or similar. Out of interest, was your X1900 a 512mb card? If it was then if I was in a similar position, I'd be raging.

Yes. I'd not be taking that deal either. You deserve more as the card on offer is weaker by a fair bit in which no overclocking could get back!.

X1900XT - 48 Pixel Shaders
X1950Pro - 36 Pixel Shaders

The HIS that the op has been offered is faster than the X1900XT on clock speed. Not much more mind.

That still is an RMA downgrade when you should be replaced to the same or higher.

the x1900xt i had was the 256meg version as I don't really require anymore due to my 17" screens going to a max res of 1280x1024, if you guys really think this is a downgrade what should I do?

think i paid £170 for the original btw, but can't confirm as I've lost the email in a reformat

Yea but then it could be argued that the X1900XT only had 256mb of memory whereas the HIS has 512mb. Its very difficult as they are now out of production and the only closer ATI would be the 2900 as the 2400 and the 2600 is nowhere near as good as the X1950 for DX9 Gaming.

omg I hope they dont stop producing 7900's. I'll end up with an 8600

Edit: If DX10 is the next way forward for you then maybe if you kicked up enough of a stink you may be able to get the HIS 2600XT ICEQ 512mb. Dunno how far you'll get though.

Just ask them if they can match your card at least. It's like RMA'ing a 8800GTX and getting a 8800GTS back. It's not on.

well i've sent a webnote, but seeing as they have already sent the card, I fear it will probably fall on deaf ears (they sent the emails about it while I was at work).

Sorry for being so negative about it. I was just wanting you to get an equivalent card as that's all I'd be happy with. They are not miles apart though and as long as your gaming doesn't change then it might not be so bad :).

okay guys, got a bit of good news, spoke to a nice chap named Ryan at OCUK, told him about the x1950pro not being as good as the x1900XT, he asked me what card I thought would be a suitible replacement, I said to him i don't really want to take the biscuit and ask for an x2900XT but there isn't anything else, so he offered the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express), so all in all, thanks guys :) woot!
