I'm just curious as to how this is even possible? After rent and house bills, assuming 38 weeks at university, I'll have £200/week.

I thought student loans were capped at 6.5k or so?
I've budgeted for around £500 a month, that is:
Rent: £300
Internet: £30
Electric/Water: £50
Food: £140
Of course other costs will pop up but that's my optimistic budget. Going home every few weeks costs £40 a time which is a pain, also things like car running costs and things put me out of budget, got some work in the pipeline for school holidays etc. though so it should be alright! I ended last year at -£500 so I'll just have to see how it goes!
It would be cheaper to rent a student room with internet included but after the first year sharing I'd rather have my own space so I've got a flat instead, worth the extra imo!

... people who ... have very good entrance grades/etc.

I worked for the university library last year.I've just had a thought, how about working in the university itself, like the student bar or student shop?
Does that sound plausible?

Yeah, people can get loads, in the form of bursaries and alike. For example, people who do 'priority subjects'/have very good entrance grades/etc.
When I have over £200 a week to spare after bills, it's er, hard to get into a situation where you are 'living hand to mouth'.
