As from today, my tabs in Chrome (latest build) are freezing randomly when opened. Having Googled this it appears it is a massive problem affecting thousands of Chrome users, so far no one can work out a definitive resolution to this. I've tried disabling pepperflash but that didn't work. Also tried the disable threaded compositing thing but it still does the same thing. Opena tab, browse a site. Open a new tab browse that. Attempt to switch back to first tab and *bam* - freezes.

Anyone else getting the same thing?. What have you tried to fix the bugger?.

Odd question, but are you using Chrome via Remote Desktop?

Nope, just as normal. It appears borked on all three PC's in the house and my laptop.

Using chrome today as usual and can't say iv'e had any problems, business as usual here

Wish I could say the same. I've just tried disabling threaded compositing via chrome://flags/ and I don't want to speak too soon but it appears to be back to working ok. Previously I disabled it via the command line switch but using flags looks like it has maybe done the trick.

Not just today.. my work Chrome has a lot of black flashing now :-( Not sure if related but getting a lot of display driver crashes when using chrome as well :-( (only past few days).

I can't quite believe how GC has gone from a very stable reliable browser into a slow train crash. I frequent another PC forum and the posts about problems with it just keep piling up it seems.

Still no one mentions which version. You mean 24, Stable, I assume?

You should try un-installing Chrome. Remove the folder and reboot. Then re-install. Just to rule out an upgrade screwup.

I don't quite understand why people use Chrome over Firefox.

I've never had any issues with Firefox, only the Adobe Flash plugin which was easily solved in a matter of seconds.

Indeed :-

It might help to give the version number.

I mentioned in my initial post that it was the latest build. ;)

So far the fix I posted above regarding the chrome://flags/ thing seems to have worked on my laptop - no more freezing tabs. I'm about to try it on the three desktops here and see if it works out the same.

I suppose this is the problem when you are trying to keep people on the upgrade treadmill. What starts of as a minimalistic fast browser slowly gets bogged down and problematic as more and more features have to be added to keep people interested.

It's happened to FF, Opera and pretty much all mainstream browsers at some point.

Had been having big problems with Chrome with GIFS Vids and general speed, getting crashes.

Went to the new IE and it felt a LOT faster and stable.
