hi i have a asock N68C-S UCC it come with a 1.8 ghz cpu which every thing ran fine but i decided to put a 6 core processor in its the rigt processor acording to asrock it part number HDT55TWFK6DGR but with this cpu in every now and again when computer is busy it switches itself off the temp is 49 degreese so i sent the cpu back as faulty and got a refund as they did not have any more in stock and i then brought one from overclockers but this problem still exists only when using the six core processor any advise would be very appriciated by the way im using 4gb memory its not the correct memory that should be in it its got corsair tw3x4g1333c9a but according to manufacture it should be CM3X2048-1333C9DHX weather this could be the problem or not i am not sure but why would it only do it with a 6 core processor by the way i did put the original processor in for 2 weeks and it was fine untill i put the new processor back in i have also upgraded the fan aswell but it still stays at 49 degreese

its a xpower atx 4ootd

Don't take this the wrong way but it's a bit pants.

Of the 400W only about 200W is on the 12V rail which is what most components need these days.

I don't know what else you have installed but even a fairly basic system with a Phenom II X6 1055T is soon going to exceed 200W at load.

I think you need a new PSU.

Make sure you get a branded PSU such as Be Quiet!, Corsair, Antec, XFX, etc.

Unless you have a hugely powerful graphics card a quality 450 - 500w PSU would be more than enough.

Please tell us what PSU you're going to buy before you buy it, you could be making another mistake if you're not careful!

ok so i got a new 650w psu but it still shuts down it mainly shuts down when my partner tries to play bejeweled blits on facebook it can shut off 3-4 times a day when doing that but it may only shut down once in a while when im doing something else

What makes you think it isn't the PSU?

You've replaced one naff PSU with another naff PSU so that hardly rules it out.

If it's the one I can see for sale around £20 then just look at the specification:

4 pin power connector for CPU - a decent 650W PSU should have 8 pin

1 (!) SATA power connector - a decent 650W PSU should have around 6

No PCI-E 6/8 pin power connectors - a decent 650W PSU should have at least 2

What do they say, buy cheap buy twice. In your case buy cheap buy thrice.

Why do you think your PSU is £20 and a 650W unit from a reputable brand is £60.

What's the full spec. of your system?

+1 you've wasted £40 on two poor psu's when a decent psu can be bought for £40...
