AS5 and how to apply?? thermal paste

Hi, just wondered with as5 should i cover the whole cpu with a small amount n spread it thinly with spatchelor type tool covering all of cpu or just a small blob in the centre, How exactly does it work?? ps cooler is a from an msi zilent zalman mainboard bundle

Its really down to personal preference. I have tried both ways with little difference in results, although last time I reseated my CPU heatsink i put a blob in the middle.
 
When I got my Freezer pro 7 it had some of that thermal paste already on the heatsink... can u do it that way round as well? Or should you always put it on the actual cpu?
