I have a e6300 (2.8ghz)/Tuniq Tower running a s-flex 1600rpm fan with orthos load of 62/57 (TAT) on my cores. I am using as5 that is 3 years old on the hs and it has thickened up as expected with silver based compound.

Basically, is there a life span for AS as I am going to be lapping the e6300 on mon and wondering if I need to source some new goo to help lower temps.

Just a question, how can the AS5 on the heatsink be 3 years old, with a Conroe processor? You should never 'reuse' compound, should clean it off and replace it every time you remove the the heatsink.

In the tube AS5 will last until the tube runs out :P

I think he means the tube is 3 years old, not the present application :p

It's just metal, nothing magic. Don't forget that.

Spose there's no harm re-doing it though.

Yeah the tube is 3 years old. Last time it was used was when I built my old system. :) This new setup is 3 weeks old and it's in bits again!!!!

AS5 will separate over time. You may notice clear 'fluid' coming out instead of the silver you expect, this is the suspension fluid which is useless without silver in it. Best to dab a little on a cloth until the good stuff comes out;).
