Asbestos

When I dismantled my old garage with corrugated cement panels I asked Kettering council how to disspose of it. They came back with, that I could pay £25 (just before it went up) to take it to the Northampton Waste Transfer Station but only 5 panels that had to be double wrapped in thick polythene and placed in a container by myself. The rest of the panels could be double bagged in ordinary plastic bags and sealed, which meant they had to be broken up. These were taken to Corby tip were they had a large sealed skip. When I put them in the guy actually started stamping on the bags to get them in the hatch. Best of it was the container from Northampton once filled would be taken to Corby to be buried.

Guy is doing his job, doesn't care what you think just the earache he'll get from the boss if it turns out to be asbestos.

I find it amusing all the people in here berating the tip worker just for doing his job, he doesn't make the rules.

Plenty of toxic waster buried around Corby, what's a little more!

Bit by bit in the bin, will take a few months though.
Thanks for the input guys.
Seems I'll go with this plan.

I guess at least by having the samples tested I was able to asses whether or not to bother with asbestos related PPE.

Also, I'm trained in the identification and removal of CAF gaskets, lagging due to working with old steam lines, power generation type stuff.
I know the kinds of things that look like they could be, but it's impossible to tell that they're not.

Veolia, there's your problem.

They like to incinerate everything so won't like anything that won't remotely burn - asbestos or not.

Pre-covid at my local tip they used to all hang around the general waste skip checking what you're throwing in to see if it's recyclable or not. Now they all stay in their hut because covid and now it's a free for all.

Lol deflection. The council's own the contract and can tell them do what they want. Veolia are like the Ticketmaster of the world. Aimed to misdirect the public's feedback.

The more disreputable have been known to break up and put jobsworth unfriendly waste in an old freezer, screw the door shut and take it to the tip. I prefer home burial but am lucky enough to have enough land for it to not be noticed. Hell, I have my mother buried here, and she was pretty toxic at times ;)

I'd go to a different site, there are at least 4 in my area I could visit and its all luck of who is there when you get there really isn't it. You know its not Asbestos so your not doing wrong.
