If you are going to use an ssd for an operating system, use "achi" mode. However, if you are going to use the operating system on the normal hard drive, achi won't work and will casue you to BSOD. Make sure when installing/installing the windows on it, make sure non of your normal hard drives are connected in.

Last thing, you can't use a dual boot with achi mode.

You can prevent the BSOD by changing a registry setting and having Windows load the AHCI driver, as explained here.

Dual booting works fine with a controller in AHCI mode.

You also need AHCI if you want a traditional hard disk to support native command queuing, and hot swap support.

AHCI doesnt cause bluescreens, changing from IDE Emulation to AHCI without changing the drivers first on the other hand..... With a fresh install might as well go AHCI regardless.
