Asio and Wasapi outputs broken by the windows 10 fall creators update?

I prefer to use outputs that don't go through the windows mixer so use either Asio or Wasapi on my Asus STX and Sennheiser 600 Headphones, but I've noticed that since going to the latest windows 10 update that the output from both of these plugins is broken and they no longer have exclusivity over sound output.

I've tried both musicbee and foobar and whenever an asio (using asio4all) or wasapi output is chosen the music playing can be interrupted by system sounds. The best way to test this is to play a music file and then plug a USB stick in to your PC. Whilst you don't hear the USB connection sound, the music is silenced.

Has anyone else noticed something similar as prior to this windows update I've not had any issues at all and even doing a complete install from scratch to rule out and problems with the update have failed to rectify the issue?

I have WASAPI running in MusicBee (under latest Win10) but not in event mode, which for some reason causes badly distorted audio (like it's skipping), which is not improved by adjusting the cache.

I have my STX selected as Windows default, which goes through my speakers and MusicBee, set internally to WASAPI through my Schiit stack for headphone use and neither interrupts the other.

Yes. I switched WASAPI output in MusicBee to my STX, started playing music and then started inserting and removing USB sticks - they had no effect whatsoever, the music continued with no audible interrruption

Thank you for confirming that I've no idea what's wrong with my system! Can I ask you to confirm which drivers you are using for your STX please so that I can rule out that possibility. I've just tried both the last Asus drivers as well as the unified ones and it makes no difference at all - as soon as the USB stick goes in/out the music is muted

I take it you have both boxes ticked in the Exclusive section of Playback Devices / Properties / Advanced ?
