I have an old computer which i have ubuntu on but i want to be able to play a few games on lan, the pc isn't used much so its not worth buying a new copy of xp anymore as i have bought a few already over the years, i remember reading here or elsewhere years ago that someone was able to get an extra XP key from support when they explained a similar situation as this, basically they wanted it for an old pc for their kids if i remember correctly, so do you think they will?

If not is there anything else i can try to either legally get xp working or just the games on ubuntu, wine really doesn't work as well as i was led to believe, especially when it comes to lan games, i either have issues with RA2 on ipx or issues with directplay on games that use that, its such a shame because i do like ubuntu for everything else. :(

why don't you just try it yourself?
call Microsoft see what they say, although i doubt they will give you a key for free, and there is no other way of getting windows xp cd key for free, as far as i know at least.

linux/wine sucks for games!

Cedega is basicaly a paid for version of wine with better support base and is a lot easer to setup and get games running. think its about £9 a month sub for it.
