Hi,
Any idea how i change the aspect ratio on the Samsung 226 BW with a ATI X800 GTO. Its in widescreen ratio at the moment and I want it in 4:3 mode so everything is not squashed!
Thanks in advance,
Ade

Is that in windows or in game.

The official ATI drivers should allow you to run that screen at full 1680x1050 resolution so it doesn't look distorted.

Hi,
Yep... that works fine... but its too small, i can hardly see the text and I don't want to start wearing glasses yet!
Any other ideas ?

Try another wide resolution.

1440x900 will make the icons and stuff a little bigger while not distorting the image. :D

EDIT: Or 1280x720 - but that will look terrible :( :p

Good luck LOL

<edit> It shouldn't look squashed anyway, as its a widescreen monitor. if you set it to 4:3 it would then look squashed...unless it has 1:1 pixel mapping and you would just have borders down the sides of the image.

Hi,
I don't seem to have that setting in my graphic card ?

I ideally want to display 1024 X 768 with out distortion.
cheers,
Ade
That resolution will cause distortion on a widescreen regardless. That's why widescreen resolution horizontal pixel counts are so much larger than the height pixel counts. Hence my 1280x720 suggestion

My 1280 suggestion is wider than your intended 1024 and yet my 720 is shorter than your 768 = widescreen and standard.

If you don't use a widscreen resolution with a widescreen monitor you either get a stretched image or (in the case of 1:1 pixel mapping as fobose says) black bars down each side of the screen where pixels arent being used.

Maybe update your ATi drivers to their newest revision. Then extra resolution options should appear.

Unfortunately the Samsung Syncmaster 206BW and 226BW don't support 1:1 pixel mapping natively so you can't run any resolution other than 1680x1050 without it stretching the image to full-screen.

I have the 206BW myself and I'm afraid the only option is to do it in the graphics drivers, which I'm further afraid to tell you is only possible with Nvidia Forceware and not ATI Catalyst.

gt junkie, is this also so with the nvidia drivers? as in the past I have never had the option of any other WS res's, however with the latest nvidia ones I get the extra WS res of 1600x900 :/

I know you said you've got it sorted, but if you want to make text bigger, while still running full res, do the follwing:

Right-click on the desktop and choose Properties, click the Settings tab then click advanced.

Then on the General tab have a play around with the DPI setting.

Edit: What the hell am I doing posting on forums this late?! I'm off to bed.

Hey, 1 good thing about widescreen/4:3 option in games is if you play eg tra on a widescreen tv at the std 1024x768 4:3 mode things dont look right tho if you select widescreen in game options it now looks great & Laura dont need go on a diet anymore :D
