Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 PCI-e 4x Slot, too much of a bottleneck for a 9600GT / 8800GT?

There's something wrong then mate.

Coming from a p4 3.0Ghz to your mobo was like night and day....I think after my overclock I got just under 10K in 3dmark05.

LOL I'd say so, trouble is, theres a lot of settings in the BIOS (most on default / auto) and the Manual is as helpful as a Chocolate fire guard....

I'll run 05 and see what I get.

Edit: 05 score........ 2373!!!!

The paper manual is cack - but on the CD there is another manual with BIOS settings in it. Have you taken a look at that? it's not much better, but at least it goes over the settings.

Well, I was in OC today and dediced "What the Hell" and bought one of these boards and a 2180 to complement it.

Currently, I'm using my 1950Pro AGP 512MB and 2GB of my old DDR400 RAM (will get some DDR2 at some stage I'm sure)

The results thus far? CRAP! :p

I'm scoring circa 20k in 3D Mark 2001 & 10k in 03! :o

My Battlefield 2 Frame rate has halved and FSX runs like a dog.

I've managed to clock the 2180 to 2.5 ghz but am seeing little if any improvement.

Any ideas?

Back to the old A64 3000+ at this rate! - I know its a relatively cheap board, but I was honestly expecting better from this with a 2180 compared to my previous nForce 3 / A64 3000+ setup!:confused::confused:
Hi i have same setup as u but with a q6600 at defualt and i get over 35000 in
3d 01 and over 15000 in 3d 03.Have u got 2 power cables goin to ure x1950 and have u checked device manager for missing drivers especally motherboard drivers.

My 3870 didn't work on that board, but with that being said, I was able to oc my e2160 by 50% which isn't bad...For the cost, you'll get a massive benefit...I went from a P4 3Ghz / 1GB ram / x1950 pro...only changed the motherboard and the CPU and my computer was SO much faster! Since then I've upgraded one part at a time (because I'm very bad at saving money) and I'm more than happy!

Hi there is new bios out vers 2.0 for 3870 cards.:D

excuse the mess! :D
Device manager seems ok, I have updated the BIOS from the ASrock website and it still crawls along in benchmarks / games. :(

heres a link to score at defualt to check my system http://www.madonion.com/compare?2k1=9340012 i get over 38000 with slight overclock mines a 1950 pro though ,dont think it should make much diff.

Thanks, I appear to have roughly 50 - 60% of the performance of your rig. :(

Tried 4 different versions of the Motherboard BIOS, different chipset drivers and different graphics card drivers, all to no avail. :(

This is driving me nuts! :p

Hi first thing to check is in ccc under smartgart make sure agp is enabled and all options are on, if ure using xp that is.Have u set primary graphic card to agp in bios, also did u do a fresh instal of windows ,other than that am stumpted lol maybe mobo drivers although i never instal them.

Everything seems ok in CCC, AGP is enabled etc.

Fresh install of windows, so you'd think all would be happy there, BIOS seems ok, bit I find them a bit of a minefield tbh!

hey if you've got any problems/ queries specific to the board go on this forum http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=29&threadid=2063964&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=20

that whole thread is devoted to the board... answered a few of my questions well

Cheers, I'll have a look. :)

sorry what is the question that you are asking?.. and btw its just a very poor motherboard.. end of

MY OP was asking if this board would bottleneck an 8800 / 9600 too much, which it appears it may, anyway I decided to get one anyway to give my 1950pro a boost and thus far its considerably slower than my previous A64 3000+

very poor motherboard or not, I'm damn sure it should be considerably quicker than a bottom of the range CPU on an old NForce 3 motherboard! Alas, it appears not.

Thats the long & short of my question. :)
