ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

humm seems like i good board think i might add an E6300 plus this board to my list of mabe's for next upgrade :D

EDIT: just realised it is a VIA chipset, think ill pass then

I just received this motherboard today along with:
E6600, Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case, G.Skill HZ 2GB PC2-6400, FSP Sparkle 700W, and an X1900XT.

Everything was setup fine (apart from the Kandalf case having a few motherboard sandoff holes a mm out! Must be something to with with imperial/metric system they use?!?), but after installing windows, started getting the BSOD.

Prime would fail immediatly, System32 missing PCI driver, ntfs.sys faults etc.

I immediatly thought it was the ram, so checked the timings and they were running at 4-4-4-12. But, the DRAM voltage, was set to auto. Unlike other motherboards where you can pump in pretty much precisely what you want, all you have is High, Normal, Low or Auto.

The G.Skill ram i got can operate within 2.0-2.2V. So I tried high, same errors tried normal and again same problems; but gave low a go and did not encounter a single problem thereafter.

Prime could run, SuperPi did 1M in 20.297sec (at stock till DFI RD600 arrives) and I was able to install everything else without any hassle. The only slight problem I had was with the Lan. I had forgotten to reconfigure my router to enter in the new MAC address, and windows would take at least 2 mins to boot up. After I realised and corrected it, everything worked fine again and boots into windows in just over 25 seconds! Seems to be that if it does not obtain an IP address from the router, it would take longer to boot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here please.

Hope this helps anyone if they have similar problems.

E6600 ***!

Many thanks,

James

Had the board and a E6300 delivered this afternoon, set it up and everything worked fine first off. What a great board, use my old agp graphics card and old pc3200 ram. Bargain board..
Going to have a play later to see what the performance is like.
Got to be good going from a Athlon xp 2200!!.

These processors are rapid, increased my fps in counterstrike source from 50 to over 150, now thats some increase!!!.

Ive currently got a 6600 (not GT) and im looking at getting the Overclockers 7900GS, will this card work ok with the board on pci-e?. Looking at the compat list on Asrock there are hardly any cards listed, and the 7900GS isnt there?..

Mint, ASROCK do it again.

Innovation, they do lead the way, but a much different way to other mobo makers.

So, how are people finding this board?

I take it all i would need is the mobo and a new CPU to upgrade to conroe?

Really the ability to take DDR1 & DDR2 is the winner from my point of view, however i dont need the AGP, is there any other options available to me, or are ASRock just being the daddy's again?

Pretty sure all 7900's are supported. My GTO is and it isnt on the list :)

With regards to dokko. I dont think you'll find a board with both DDR's and not AGP. This may well be the only board with such features allowing for smooth transition, although I havnt shopped around so dont quote me on that :)

Gutted, although this still tickles.

If anyone knows of a one, or one coming, let me know in this thread and i'll keep track, otherwise, i think this could be the way to conroe for me :)

The only problem I have with this board is the pretty limited BIOS options. I haven't found a way to set the RAM multiplier manually and the VRAM volt settings as stated above are High, Medium or Low so you don't really know what you're feeding into your RAM. I have mine set to high as I have DDR1 RAM and that can generally take much higher voltages.

I'm having problems getting the FSB above 285 though whereas almost everyone else in this thread can easily get it to 300. Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong? So far I've just set the FSB to 300, VRAM to High and I'm getting BSODs a few seconds into windows startup. FSB at 285 works fine though.

Can someone give me a detailed walk through the BIOS about how they set theirs to 300?

The E6300 isn't quite the speed boost I was expecting from my P4 478 3Ghz. SuperPI ran 1M in 1m20 instead of 1m44 before but that was only on one core. Any way to set it to a dual core mode or is there another program that can run both cores?

Can anyone help me with this? My RAM is set to 200Mhz in the BIOS but on CPU-Z it's shown as running in a 2:1 ratio at just 142.6 on my 285FSB.

I have heard of other people manually changing their ratios on this board but I can't see where in the BIOS.

You need to use HWiNFO32 to read the RAM speed correctly.

hi looking for some advice please i have this board and a conroe 6300 and1 gig geil ddr value ram can some one explain what to change in the bios to clock this up to a 3.0 gig [or close to]just about to purchase anothere ddr2 gig of giel ram any help please

You can't clock this board that high. The highest stable FSB I've managed is 295mhz. That gives me just under 2.1Ghz with the same cpu. It's still quite fast and when you've upgraded your RAM to DDR2 and gfx card to PCI-e you can get a more expensive mobo that will be able to overclock the chip to around 2.8ghz if you're lucky.

To overclock it now just set the overclocking setting to aSync and set the CPU speed to 295 and PCI-e to 117. Set the RAM speed to AUTO and turn the compatibility to disabled if you can. Set your RAM voltage to High and you can see if command rate 1T works. if not leave it at 2T.

That's a great resource if you're intent on overclocking with this board. FSB speeds of the maximum 340 have been reported by using the VAGP pencil mod. I'm not sure how my graphics card will handle the extra volts but I am going to check if it will let me raise my FSB while remaining stable.

Anyone running a ocuk 7900gs on this board?, want to know if its compat or not. Going to be purchasing one later this week hopefully.

Can anyone tell me if they are having sound problems in game with the onboard sound? I have the latest drivers for the sound. I had to take out my audigy 2 which means losing the digital output but I can live with that if only it would not crash my games after a couple of minutes play. My audigy 2 though didn't even play the game without crashing straight away among other little crashes doing random things. I may try it again if the onboard sound doesn't fix itself.

No problems here matey. Using WDM_R147.EXE drivers.

Yeah been using the onboard soundcard since I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and it works a charm. No problems to report wathsoever.

damn.. maybe its creative drivers still around somewhere. is there a creative utility to remove all their drivers from the system? I never actually did. I just took the card out and when I went to uninstall the drivers they didnt show up.

Hello guys, first post here so be gentle.
Like many others I'm looking at this mobo as a stepping stone to a full blown pci-e ddr2 system in the future. I'd be coupling it with a conroe e6600 2.4ghz keeping my old galaxy 6600gt and 1gig kingston pc3200 400mhz ram. The price of around £250 probably means the wife will still be speaking to me afterwards.
I know that it would be a lot quicker for video encoding and basic number crunching but my query is really about gaming of which I do a fair bit. My current rig is a P4 s478 3.0e ghz processor unclocked in an Intel D865gbf mobo. Will I be taking a step backwards initially performance wise ie; fps and stuttering because of the conroes lower 2.4ghz or will the new architecture used actually improve things .
I'd be hoping to increase the fsb on the asrock to get around 2700ghz out of the e6600, does that sound feasible?
Your thoughts please hopefully from someone who's made a similar upgrade.
Thanks.
