I have finally had the time to put my new build together and it powers up and then nothing.

There is no error code on the motherboard I just get a blank screen.

I saw a thread suggesting removing one stick of ram but that didn't work

Spec

ASRock Extreme 4
Thermaltake Toughpower 700Watt
i5 3570k
corsair vengeance low profile 2 x 4gb ddr3
XFX Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+
sandisk etreme ssd 120gb (brand new blank)
WD Caviar Black SATA 3 640gb
Cooler Maser Hyper 212 Evo
Sony SATA2 dvd rw

This is very frustrating!

Here is a list from another post to try

1. Go over each wire and make sure it's securely attached.
2. Have you plugged in the 8-pin CPU power connector and 24-pin motherboard power?
3. Try removing things you don't need, so sound card, network card, DVD-RW, mechanical drive, just use the bare minimum.
4. Use a single stick of RAM, install in the memory slot furthest away from the CPU and try booting. If no luck move it to a different slot and retry. Try different memory sticks too.
5. Have you installed the motherboard brass stand-offs?
6. Does the CPU fan spin up (if connected)? Presumably you used thermal paste when applying the cooler?
7. Double check front panel connectors? These can sometimes be a bit tricky and easy to get wrong. Try shorting the two power pins on the motherboard using a screwdriver to make sure it's not a front panel power on switch fault.
8. Any LED's on the motherboard or error bleeps?

1) yep that was the first thing i did
2) yep
3) done
4) done
5) not sure what this means so maybe not?
6) yes and yes
7) yes they work, it powers up but does nothing. Ive tried with the switches on the board itself too
8) no

Still no joy :(

Well I got it to work eventually by changing the 8 pin power cable. Wierd as the other one worked fine the day before. However it won't work with my graphics card in, screen stays blank but I can hear windows start if it's slotted in but power cables not connected and if the cables are connected it doesn't start.

Have you set the graphics option in the bios to pci express then you put your card in? Its in the north bridge options in the bios

Yes I have already said I have done this, it works without the graphics card but not with it in.

The graphics card was working before I did the upgrade I will try it in another machine when I get the chance though.

I've been away and haven't had the chance to test in other machine but I have noticed that occasionally the sound becomes distorted. Would this indicate a faulty motherboard?

Thanks for all the replies in this thread. I flashed the bios to the latest version and now the graphics card is working.

However having other problems.

I can no longer connect to wifi since installing the graphics card either through pci card or usb stick. Windows says it is connected but it doesn't work. It works fine on other devices and was working before the update. This is a clean build so shouldn't be having problems.

My wireless mouse is stuttering worse than before even though the update was meant to fix that.

The audio is producing lots of noise as if the speakers weren't correctly plugged in properly but they are. Same thing with headphones.

I think this motherboard is duff.

What version of BOIS did you upgrade to? I'm on v1.40. I'm having the same problem with the GPU not being detected at all. Also getting that weird squealing sound from speakers and headphones but only when playing games.

:EDIT: Getting that speaker noise always now.

:EDIT 2: Just FYI I did a CMOS reset, I don't know if it will work for you but it solved all my problems, including the squealing sound form the speakers. Also it did not lose the updated version of BIOS and my CPU overclock settings were still saved as a user defined setting so I didn't have to go through all that again.
