I am trying to swap out the 1700 with a 5800X3D. Was interested in knowing the BIOS update sequence. Currently on v2.4 that shipped with the motherboard.
The website doesn't show any dependency for v7.0 - should i start from there, will taht work?

Also whats the thing with disabling the fTPM switch before upgrading BIOS?
Thanks.

Just had a look and there's a long list of bios updates on certain orders before you get to the latest that supports the 5800x3d.

From my reading the first you need to update to 3.50 as your on 2.4., then some amd all in 1 vga driver firmware . Then update bios 7.00 after that bios 7.10 and your done.

That's my take on it please don't take it as gospel and check .

ok this went well - but i instead chose to use the newer 7.3 bios
so the update sequence looks like this
2.4 - 3.5- 5.1 - 7 - 7.3
theres a cataloging error on asrock's website the latest bios is version 7.3 and not 7,4
just be sure to disable the ftpm switch before flashing

So the latest 7.3 BIOS runned OK with your Ryzen 1700 aswell...?

See instructions here: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X370 Killer SLI/index.asp#BIOS

It's basically the same board as my X370 Taichi, the only CPUs not supported are Bristol Ridge (which I'm pretty sure are all Athlon branded chips), although it does recommend not updating past 5.40 with Pinnacle, Summit, Raven or Bristol Ridge chips (which I believe covers a lot of 1xxx/2xxx chips).

Basically only update for what you need (or if you are having problems) and make sure you follow the instructions around which version you need to be on for each update, as well as all-in-one/chipset drivers required (just update to this one (linked) before you start and it should cover all eventualities!)

Edit: The x370 Taichi thread on the overclock.net forums is a very useful resource, I warn you though, it's nearly 600 pages long at this point and a lot of it is people bickering about squeezong the last 0.5% performance out of their CPU/RAM :P
