Assassin 3 cooler.

Has anyone seen the new Corsair Assassin 3 CPU cooler? It looks lovely! I saw a video of it on on an open stand on youtube at CES 2019. It was strapped to an I9900K CPU at 5Ghz and not throttling. Apparently it is whisper quiet too, a welcome cooler for me when I buy a new system next year as I am not keen on using water cooling. It isn't released yet though.

Do you mean the Deepcool Assassin III? Looks like it will cost $99.99 so probably the same in pounds. It seems very capable with a capacity of 280w but I don't think I would want a 1.5kg cooler hanging off my motherboard.

While 1.5kg is heavy, I doubt it's a problem. NH-D15 is 1320g, PH-TC14PE is 1250g, Silver Arrow IB-E is 1180g, Dark Rock Pro 4 is 1300g, Cryorig Ultimate is 1282g.

Adding support is not a bad idea. I've added supports for big GPU coolers, but never for a CPU cooler. I've rran some systems for more years than I should have and never had a big CPU cooler damage anything.

Please seem to use this OK. However I agree that I don’t like putting anything near this weight on a vertical mobo.

NHD15 and the Assassin 3 are on par. I guess you will be buying on noise preferences at this point. The NHD15 has a lower hum when it's put against something and the Assassin 3 has a lighter frequency. I went for the Assassin 3 as I disliked the noctua fan noises when put against things.
